Born Bobby Zimmerman in Hibbing, Minnesota, Bob Dylan overcame many obstacles to become one of the most revered musicians of his time. Throughout his lifetime, he has achieved success in almost every genre of music from folk, to rock, to country, to ballads. Though he has written more than five hundred songs, he is best known for his folk-rock protest songs of the 1960s. His songs are filled with such insight and feeling that he became known as the poet prophet and was a role model to many young people of that generation.
