This book is meant to reach children, and to help them to understand that it is wise to be obedient to adults, especially their parents and teachers and all who mean them well.
To obtain this goal, Mrs. Rose used stories of people from the Bible who were disobedient to the command God gave them, and the consequences that followed as a result.
