Sloss Furnace and Big John is an account of the life of John Wesley, the father of Johnnie Mae Clark. He was born in Tuskegee (Bullock County), Alabama in 1909. Big John was an employee of Sloss Furnace for over 40 years before his death. He was a man that worked diligently and was always concerned about his job. While working at Sloss Furnace, he even saved a white man's life by grabbing a hold of the man's clothing and pulling him back to safety, preventing him from falling to his death. Big John also believed in honest labor and would not dream of short changing his employer in any way."--Back cover.
