When high school girl Chantal Meallian is spurned by the guy she likes, she decides to lay off love for a while. Instead, shell focus on school and in superficial attention from the opposite sex, committing to live her life to the fullest.
Her best friend, Dayvian Peterson, is smart and sassy, but the failure of love in her lifeas demonstrated by her parents divorcehas forced her into bitterness, and she goes through the motions of life with a cynical attitude. On holiday break in their senior year, the girls travel to Covington, Louisiana, to visit Chantals family home.
