In a silent valley stands an isolated farmhouse, the Mas Lunel. Its owner, Aramon Lunel is an alcoholic, haunted by his violent past; his dogs starve and his land is in ruins. Meanwhile, his sister Audrun, in her bungalow within sight of the Mas Lunel, dreams of retribution for the betrayals that have blighted her life. Into this world, from London, comes disillusioned antiques dealer Anthony Verey, hoping to remake his life in France.
