This book, comprised of 13 topics to help you understand the Spanish-speaking world, is intended to be used both in the classroom and by travelers and professionals who wish to know more about Hispanic culture. The information is presented side-by-side in both English and Spanish and is an effective way to learn Spanish. It covers a wide array of topics from tipping and bribing, to climate change, natural resources, democracy and colonization.
Carrie McLaren has co-authored two books. The first is a Spanish language textbook entitled El Idioma espanol y la Culutra hispana (2017) and the second is an ebook entitled User Guide to El Idioma espanol y la Cultura Hispana (2018). She has edited two novels and various educational resources. Carrie's passion for languages has been a vital part of her successful career as a Spanish and French high school teacher. Head of the Modern Language Department at Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute, Carrie has made lifelong learning a priority throughout her career and has kept up-to-date on the most current theories of modern language education.
Dr. Frederick Keenan has worked and traveled over the past 40 years in 14 of the 20 Spanish-speaking countries focused on in the book. He has written 10 books, five of which are in Spanish. He has lectured and presented week-long workshops in Spanish on sustainable forest utilization. He regularly presents case studies at the University of Western Ontario, London, that are set in Latin American countries and he was previously the Director of the Forest Industries Division, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Rome, Italy.
