Andy, a lonely and intellectually disabled boy is "sold" a racecourse for three dollars by a tramp. The fantasy world of boyhood is played out as the racecourse staff adopt Andy as a mascot and indulge his dream by calling him "boss". The dream has to end and this is accomplished without breaking Andy's heart.
