It is an important text in the field of Tantrik Hinduism and may have been written around the end of the first millennium. It is written in Sanskrit which is Indias classical (dead) language and a sister language to classical Greek, Latin, and Avestan. There is a strong metaphysical content, but the text is also concerned with the worship and rituals of many of Indias gods and goddesses.
