This haunting true story is based on the life of the author, who grew up in Jamaica in the West Indies, until she was 16 years old. She struggled most of her life to overcome the hurts of her childhood, a time in which she trusted friends, family and teachers, who ended up hurting her and greatly impacting her life. Maloney Hunter-Lowe came to the United States to live with her parents and siblings. But she ended up confused and challenged because of the poor choices she made early in life. Regardless, she pursues her education, marries and travels. She is now at a point where she feels she is successful and has truly overcome her past hurts and abuse. She wrote A Caribbean Twist so her story "can have some impact on young girls and maybe to show that you can turn the bad situations into good ones." Maloney Hunter-Lowe lives in Virginia.
