Eleven-year-old Maud is obsessed with two things: a career in flying and getting her 13-year-old sister, Lily, to remain friends with her. It seems Lily spends time with her friends and ignores Maude. But Maude learns to "fly solo" and becomes a person in her own right, in this gently humorous story.
