Fourteen-year-old Mattie loves horses and she is enchanted by a painting of a horse she finds in her grandmother's attic. When she discovers that a wild horse she has bonded with in the forest may be the same horse as in the painting, Mattie begins to fear that her wish for the image to become real may in fact have materialized.
