These stories are accounts of the adventures of young boys growing up in the 1940's. Summers were spent on Dry Creek fishing, swimming, camping-out and generally exploring the surrounding woods. It was a time when parents didn't worry about their kids and the boys had long days of almost complete freedom. A group of four boys had adventures dealing with an escaped convect, encountering racial segregation, waging a conflict with new boys that moved into the area and solving a murder. Through these events the boys were gaining maturity and learning much about life and morals that served them well in later years.
