Thompson River Salish Speech is a 600-page collection presenting a variety of speech: 45 stories, prayers, songs, a conversation, and a traditional oration, with interlinear grammatical analysis and English translation. The speech was gathered from the last, best speakers in the 1970s and 1980s. The book uses formal devices to make the language accessible to non-speakers. Each n?e?kepmxcin sentence or clause is followed by two explanatory lines: an English morpheme-by-morpheme gloss and an English translation. The book is a must-have for speakers or learners of the language, Interior Salishanists, and those interested in traditional Amerindian oral literature. It is intended to be a companion volume to the Thompson River Salish Dictionary by Laurence C. and M. Terry Thompson, which will be reprinted soon.
