L'Histoire d'une Âme, the spiritual autobiography of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, is a poignant and luminous account of a young 19th-century French Carmelite nun. This intimate account, written on the orders of her superiors, traces the extraordinary spiritual journey of a simple, loving soul. Born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin in 1873, Thérèse entered the Carmelite convent at Lisieux at the tender age of 15, driven by an ardent love for God. Through the pages of her autobiography, she reveals her "little way" to holiness, a revolutionary approach to the spiritual life based on absolute trust in God's merciful love. Thérèse shares her mystical experiences, inner struggles and moments of grace with disarming sincerity. She describes her life in Carmel, her relationships with her sisters in religion, and her profound understanding of the Gospel. Her story culminates in her discovery of her vocation: to be "love at the heart of the Church". This book fits perfectly into Amazon's "Spiritual biographies", "Mystical literature" and "Lives of saints" categories. It offers readers a fascinating insight into the soul of a young woman whose life, though short and seemingly ordinary, had a profound impact on the Catholic Church. The book reveals how Thérèse, through her contemplative life, developed a spirituality accessible to all, based on small, everyday acts of love. Her "little way" inspired millions of people around the world, making her one of the most popular saints of modern times. "The Story of a Soul" remains a classic of spiritual literature, offering hope and inspiration to all who seek to deepen their relationship with God in simplicity and love.
Complete collection of Thérèse's independent prayers, translated from the critical edition, with 9 pages of photos. "For me," wrote Thérèse of Lisieux toward the end of her life, "prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trial as well as joy; finally, it is something great, supernatural, which expands my soul and unites me to Jesus." Besides the countless spontaneous prayers found throughout her autobiography, letters, poetry, and plays, St. Thérèse left behind 21 additional independent prayers, from every period of her life, here collected for the first time. In this book we find prayers to the Infant Jesus and the Holy Face, prayers to Mary and the saints, prayers composed in joy and sorrow, prayers written for her novices and missionary brothers. All of them reflect the Saint's passionate love of God, which she wished to share with friends near and far. The highlight of this volume is the first critical text of Thérèse's famous "Offering to Merciful Love," fully annotated. Ample background materials explain the setting and significance of each prayer. Scholars will find here essential new information for the study of the Saint's doctrine; general readers will find this book an indispensable resource for learning to pray as Thérèse did. "It is prayer, it is sacrifice which give me all my strength; these are the invincible weapons Jesus has given me. They can touch souls much better than words.
St. Thérèse's autobiography was first published soon after her death in 1897 at the age of 24. Combining charming descriptions of family and community life with a sense of humor and intense devotion to God, it was an instant bestseller. But earlier editions often excluded passages, and refined her use of the French dialect often spoken by peasants. This remarkable new translation includes every word of the original text, retaining the complete charm of the original. The result is a complete and unabridged work, longer than most other editions available today. Millions of hearts have been touched by St. Thérèse of Lisieux's desire, not to be mighty and great, but to be a humble, little flower that would gladden God's eyes as He glances down at His feet. Now, yours will be, too.
Despite their importance, the poems of St. Therese of Lisieux are among the least known of her writings, previously available only in highly edited selections. ....." [from back cover]
Two and a half years before her death in 1897 at the age of 24, as Thérèse Martin began writing down her childhood memories at the request of her blood sisters in the Lisieux Carmel, few could have guessed the eventual outcome. Yet this "story of my soul," first published in 1898 in a highly edited version, quickly became a modern spiritual classic, read by millions and translated into dozens of languages around the world. Decades later, in response to growing requests from scholars and devotees of the Saint, a facsimile edition of the manuscripts appeared, along with more popular French editions of what the Saint had actually written. Here, expressed with all of Thérèse's original spontaneity and fervor, we rediscover the great themes of her spirituality: confidence and love, the "little way," abandonment to God's merciful love, and her "mission" in the church and world today. Father John Clarke's acclaimed translation, first published in 1975 and now accepted as the standard throughout the English-speaking world, is a faithful and unaffected rendering of Thérèse's own words, from the original manuscripts. This new edition, prepared for the centenary of the Saint's death, includes a select bibliography of recent works in English on Thérèse, along with a new referencing system now widely used in studies of her doctrine. Includes general and biblical index, with 8 pages of photos.

With Empty Hands is an entirely new translation and edition of Conrad de Meester`s brilliant and moving presentation of the life, thought and spirituality of St. ThTrFse of Lisieux. The author has completely revised and amplified his previous books on the saint in the light of the new, thoroughly annotated editipons of her own works, and the many recent works of research and commentary that have led him to develop and change some of his interpretations of the Saint`s life.Fr. de Meester asks why and how this young girl who asked to be admitted to the Carmel at Lisieux and persevered in her vocation to a hidden life in an obscure part of France, is not only loved and invoked by millions of people, but has become a profound influence on theology, spirituality and the missionary apostolate. He shows how the intuitions of her faith were achieved by growing from spiritual poverty to spiritual maturity through much suffering and inspite of many crises and revearsals and pays full attention to the psychology of the Saint, her family influence and her prayer life and faith as a process of extraordinary rich development. This book reveals ThTrFse as a Saint of hope whose constant watchword was "My God, I love you" and as a revolutionary of love through whom God worked and works as a liberating force.
Though the influence of Therese of Lisieux has spread far and wide since her canonization, her gifts as a poet have remained largely unknown to English speaking readers. Alan Bancroft's admirable translation captures the intelligence and fervor of her fifty poems that celebrate her joyous surrender to God.

The autobiography, letters, songs and prayers of St. Therese of Lisieux are all present in this complete hardcover edition of The Story of a Soul. Saint Therese was born in Alençon, Orne in 1873. Her youth was fraught with peril - the disease enteritis, having claimed the lives of her four siblings, was a grave challenge which she surmounted. Her family was religious, practising fasts and festivals in accordance with the Christian calendar, and practised tenets of the Christian faith such as giving charity to the unfortunate. A religious young prodigy, Therese felt a calling to the Christian faith during her teenage years, journeying to Lisieux in Normandy to begin her life as a cloistered nun. She entered into the convent at the age of fifteen, and soon impressed her peers with her purity of devotion and a deep understanding of many matters of faith. She was well-read, having found and absorbed many of the Christian documents of the past such as the Imitation of Christ. (Cover image by Nheyob.)
The Story of a Soul, better known to the English public as The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, was first published in 1899. Today it ranks amongst the greatest Christian spiritual classics and it has been translated into practically every well-known language. Almost every pope since its publication has proposed St. Therese's teaching to the faithful for their imitation-Pius XI declared her the greatest saint of our age and John Paul II made her a Doctor of the Church.
There is no female religious figure so widely known and revered as the Virgin Mary. Mary has inspired in cultures around the world a deep devotion, a desire to emulate her virtue, and a strong belief in her power. Perhaps no population has been so deeply affected by this maternal figure as Filipino Catholics, whose apparitions of Mary have increased in response to recent events, drawing from a broad repertoire of the Catholic supernatural and pulling attention to new articulations of Christianity in the Global South. In Mother Figured, historical anthropologist Deirdre de la Cruz offers a detailed examination of several appearances and miracles of the Virgin Mary in the Philippines from materials and sites ranging from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. By analyzing the effects of the mass media on the perception and proliferation of apparition phenomena, de la Cruz charts the intriguing emergence of new voices in the Philippines that are broadcasting Marian discourse globally. Based on two years of ethnographic fieldwork and hitherto unexplored archives in the Philippines, the United States, and Spain, Mother Figured documents the conditions of Marian devotion’s modern development and tracks how it has transformed Filipinos’ social and political role within the greater Catholic world.
I was about to choke on a big tilapia fish bone. The long bone was lodged opposite on either side of my throat. And each time , I breathe, the bone just got stuck inside my tonsils all the more! Then, I suddenly remembered to pray to Saint Blaise, and a great miracle happened! I prayed for nine days to Saint Therese of Lisieux. Therese is famous for answering prayers with the signs of roses . And on the ninth day, a man was waiting at the bus stop with a bouquet of roses. He said it was for me! I made a nine day prayer to Saint Jude. And I promised him that if my prayers will be granted that I will make him known. My prayers were granted and this is the reason why I am writing this book. And that is to spread the goodness of these three Ascended Masters, Galactic Stars, Avatars, we call saints. So you can all experience and live them in your reality, as well. If not so, already. And the powerful prayers or conversations or mantra to Therese, Blaise, and Jude are also in this book. Or, you also, can make your own words to acknowledge and communicate to them of your good intents for the good of mankind and of your own magnificent self. Most of all. Read the many more stories of miracles that I had personally experienced of these three fellow Gods and Goddesses, Kings and Queens, just as we are; known as Saints. And they are Saint Therese, Saint Jude, and Saint Blaise. It is because the God Source Energy is within inside of you and me. We are all Royalties as the Creator Source is home in our wonderful and compassionate hearts and brilliant and powerful minds. This is the reason why our heads is called Temple. And our hearts pulsate with love. As God Source is Love. “God is Love. And all who live in Love abides in God. And God lives in him or her,” as the scriptures state.

In Holy Tears, Holy Blood, Richard D. E. Burton continues his investigation of Catholic France from Revolution to Liberation. From his focus in Blood in the City on public demonstrations of the cultural power of Catholicism, he now turns to more private rituals, those codes of conduct that shaped the interior lives of French Catholic women and determined their artistic and social presentation. "Here there is rather less blood, and considerably more weeping," Burton says. In portraits of eleven women, including Simone Weil and Sainte Thèrése, he traces the lasting power of particular expressions of suffering and sacrifice. How, Burton asks, does a rapidly modernizing society accommodate the cultural-historical legacy of religious belief, in particular the extreme conservative beliefs of ultramontane Catholicism? Burton pays particular attention to the doctrine of "vicarious suffering," whereby an individual suffers for the redemption of others, and to certain extreme forms of religious experience including stigmatization, self-starvation, visions, and apparitions.
