This book disputes the traditional argument that the equal inheritance system hinders the growth of Chinese family business, approaching this not only in terms of economic capital, but also in terms of human capital such as education and leadership, and social networks. Zheng argues that most of the family business patriarchs only focus on the passing on economic capital, but give little attention to human capital and social capital when the come to the stage to transfer control to the next level. It further elaborates that the equal inheritance system itself isn’t the destructive force that weakens family business competitiveness, but can assist economic development by generating dynamism and capital. Based on extensive primary research, the work discusses how equal division encourages sibling comparison, analysing how such comparisons initially generate stress and anxiety but will ultimately galvanize competition, benefiting the business. The author also assesses how family division can offer initial economic human and social capitals that can motivate siblings to start their own businesses and be free from the subjugation sometimes associated with a family firm. Through the evaluation of these issues the book argues that the equal inheritance system can be regarded as the origin of the self-employment mentality, which not only fosters the growth of Chinese family business by plays crucial role in promoting economic development. The outcome of these elections would have implications for America''s relations with countries in East Asia, particularly China. Already, in the run-up to these elections, potential candidates have whipped up anti-China sentiments or even called for tough anti-China measures to appeal their respective constituencies.More significantly, with the relative decline of the US and EU, increasing doubts have been raised concerning the values and beliefs that have undergird the US and individual European countries'' political system and institutions since World War Two. China''s current stellar economic growth in the midst of the sputtering performance of the US and the EU economies have lent increasing legitimacy to the attractiveness of China''s model that combines strong authoritarian leadership with the vibrancy of a market economy. In this book Drs J X Zheng-Johansson and Per-Ivar Johansson present a remarkable unification scheme. The scheme is based on an analysis of the overall experimental observations available up to today, and an observation of the unsolved problems maintained in contemporary theoretical physics, revisiting past controversies and putting them in context with contemporary physics. The unsolved problems were the agent stimulating the authors to invent a new bold unification scheme. Vacuum polarisation, with a vacuuon (a pair of strongly bound opposite-signed charges) as a free entity, gets you back to the days of the ether concept, abandoned by physics after the Michelson-Morley experiment by the end of the 19:th century. Starting from constructing the fundamental building blocks for the vacuum and material particles, the Newtonian-Maxwellian solutions the authors obtain yield insights into fundamental concepts such as vacuum, charge, and mass. For instance, can vacuum be described by a building block denoted vacuuon, with or without mass depending on pushed into motion or not? Can free charges be described as a mass-less entity? Can and how vacuum polarise? However, even if vacuum in the real Universe never polarises as proposed in this unification scheme, it may yet serve as another tool in the physics toolbox, a theoretical bridge between classical and modern physics. Physics and physical theory is a human invention, a mathematical description of the intrinsic properties of the Universe and its associated phenomena. Our understanding of the Universe is a reaction of our mind, of our way of understanding. Richard Feynman once noted about the Maxwell equations something that goes like: If a mathematical theory in physics cannot be proved by experiments it remains to be proved mathematically. Ultimately, it must be possible to test any new theory by experiments. If experimental tests are not possible we are left with a mere hypothesis based on equations. The unification scheme proposed by this work consists of a Proposition about the fundamental building blocks (ap- and n-vaculeon) and a series of Predictions from Newtonian-Maxwellian solutions based on that Proposition. The arriving at the Proposition and the Predictions, relating to classical, quantum and relativistic mechanics, is their context. The book is a challenge out of the ordinary, a challenge that deserves careful consideration.

Focusing on the evolving relations between the state and market in the post-Mao reform era, Yongnian Zheng and Yanjie Huang present a theory of Chinese capitalism by identifying and analyzing three layers of the market system in the contemporary Chinese economy. These are, namely, a free market economy at the bottom, state capitalism at the top, and a middle ground in between. By examining Chinese economic practices against the dominant schools of Western political economy and classical Chinese economic thoughts, the authors set out the analytical framework of 'market in state' to conceptualize the market not as an autonomous self-regulating order but part and parcel of a state-centered order. Zheng and Huang show how state (political) principles are dominant over market (economic) principles in China's economy. In Search of Admiration and Respect examines the institutionalization of Chinese cultural diplomacy in the period between high imperialism and the international ascendance of the People's Republic of China. During these years, Chinese intellectuals and officials tried to promote the idea of China's cultural refinement in an effort to combat negative perceptions of the nation. Yanqiu Zheng argues that, unlike similar projects by more established powers, Chinese cultural diplomacy in this era was not carried out solely by a functional government agency; rather, limited resources forced an uneasy collaboration between the New York-based China Institute and the Chinese Nationalist government. In Search of Admiration and Respect uses the Chinese case to underscore what Zheng calls "infrastructure of persuasion," in which American philanthropy, museums, exhibitions, and show business had disproportionate power in setting the agenda of unequal intercultural encounters. In reviewing the new round of state-owned enterprise (SOE) reforms characterized by mixed ownership since 2013 in China, this book systematically investigates the theoretical underpinnings, model options and approaches to implementation of SOE mixed-ownership reforms. The Ben cao gang mu, compiled in the second half of the sixteenth century by a team led by the physician Li Shizhen (1518–1593) on the basis of previously published books and contemporary knowledge, is the largest encyclopedia of natural history in a long tradition of Chinese materia medica works.
