Tabla virtuoso, composer and percussionist Zakir Hussain is an international music phenomenon. The eldest son of the legendary Ustad Allarakha, Zakir gave his first public concert at the age of seven and was immediately hailed a child prodigy. With John McLaughlin, L. Shankar and T.H. Vinayakram, Zakir Hussain created music history with the band Shakti. He has acted in James Ivory's Heat and Dust and Sai Paranjpye's Saaz, and scored music for directors such as Bernardo Bertolucci (Little Buddha), Aparna Sen (Mr. & Mrs. Iyer) and Ismail Merchant (In Custody, The Mystic Masseur); he has also played the tabla for countless 1960s Hindi film soundtracks. There are two main approaches to health science: the study and research of the body and health-related issues to understand how humans (and animals) function, and the application of that knowledge to improve health and to prevent and cure diseases and other physical and mental impairments. The science builds on many sub-fields, including biology, biochemistry, physics, epidemiology, pharmacology, medical sociology. Applied health sciences endeavor to better understand and improve human health through applications in areas such as health education, biomedical engineering, biotechnology and public health. Organized interventions to improve health based on the principles and procedures developed through the health sciences are provided by practitioners trained in medicine, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other health care professions. Clinical practitioners focus mainly on the health of individuals, while public health practitioners consider the overall health of communities and populations. Workplace wellness programs are increasingly being adopted by companies for their value in improving the health and well-being of their employees, as are school health services in order to improve the health and well-being of children.

1857 और बिहार की पत्रकारिता: बिहार शुरू से ही विभिन्न आंदोलनों का केंद्र रहा है। 1857 के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में बिहार में लगभग आठ सौ लोगों को फाँसी पर चढ़ा दिया गया था। हजारों लोगों पर मुकदमा चलाया गया, सैकड़ों गाँव जलाए गए। इसमें शामिल विद्रोहियों की जमीन-जायदाद जब्त कर ली गई और उसे गद‍्दारों में बाँट दिया गया था। वैसे तो बिहार में 1857 के महायुद्ध पर कई पुस्तकें उपलब्ध हैं, पर मो. जाकिर साहब की इस पुस्तक की विशेषता है कि उन्होंने 1857 के दौरान उर्दू पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में इस विद्रोह के बारे में जो कुछ लिखा गया, उसे सिलसिलेवार ढंग से संकलित किया है। किसी भी विद्रोह या आंदोलन को तब की उपलब्ध रपटों और खबरों का अध्ययन कर समझा जा सकता है। इसमें अखबार-ए-बिहार, दिल्ली उर्दू-अखबार, अखबार-अल-जफर, सादिक-अल-अखबार और नदीम के बिहार विशेषांक में प्रकाशित 1857 से संबंधित खबरों और लेखों को शामिल किया गया है। सन् सत्तावन के विद्रोह के दो साल पहले पटना से ‘हरकारा’ प्रकाशित हुआ था और सन् 1856 में ‘अखबार-ए-बिहार’ प्रकाशित होने लगा था। लेखक ने उर्दू की पत्र-पत्रिकाओं का अध्ययन कर 1857 के गदर से जुड़ी सामग्रियों को रोचक तरीके से प्रस्तुत किया है। ऐसे में यह पुस्तक अधिक प्रामाणिक और उपयोगी बन गई है। 1857 Aur Bihar Ki Patrakarita by Md. Throughout the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, cinema has been adopted as a popular cultural institution in Bangladesh. At the same time, this has been the period for the articulation of modern nationhood and cultural identity of Bengali Muslims in Bangladesh. This book analyses the relationship between cinema and modernity in Bangladesh, providing a narrative of the uneven process that produced the idea of "Bangladesh cinema." This book investigates the roles of a non-Western "national" film industry in Asia in constructing nationhood and identity within colonial and postcolonial predicaments. Drawing on the idea of cinema as public sphere and the postcolonial notion of formation of the "Bangladesh" nation, interactions between cinema and middle-class Bengali Muslims in different social and political matrices are analyzed. The author explores how the conflict among different social groups turned Bangladesh cinema into a site of contesting identities. In particular, he illustrates the connections between film production and reception in Bangladesh and a variety of nationalist constructions of Bengali Muslim identity. Questioning and debunking the usual notions of "Bangladesh" and "cinema," this book positions the cinema of Bangladesh within a transnational frame. Starting with how to locate the "beginning" of the second Bengali language cinema in colonial Bengal, the author completes the investigation by identifying a global Bangladeshi cinema in the early twenty-first century. The first major academic study on this large and vibrant national cinema, this book demonstrates that Bangladesh cinema worked as different "public spheres" for different "publics" throughout the twentieth century and beyond. Filling a niche in Global Film and Media Studies and South Asian Studies, it will be of interest to scholars and students of these disciplines.
