Oh Lord, I Am So Wounded! is an inspirational book that ministers to those who have emotional scars. Have you ever been wounded, whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually? Then this book will inspire you. It is written with the aim of reaching all age groups and ethnicities and genders. Mrs. Yvonne Rose looks at some of the people in the Bible who also suffered tremendous hurts, from family members, strangers, and other people who should have shown them love, but instead rejected and abused them. Hannah was married to a man who loved her, but because she was barren, he had to take another wife who could give him the children he needed. The second wife made life miserable for Hannah, because Peninnah knew that Hannah was the love of Elkanahs life. Peninnah had his children, but Hannah had his heart. Hannah became very depressed due to the vicious attacks from her jealous rival until she decided to call on God to help her, and He answered her prayer. Leah and Rachel were sisters who were married to the same man. How did this happen? It was love at first sight for this man Jacob. He had swindled his brother Esau out of the inheritance that rightfully belonged to him, now he was a man on the run, from a brother who threatened to murder him. He ran to his uncles home and fell in love with his beautiful daughter Rachel. His uncle Laban agreed to give Rachel in marriage to Jacob in exchange for seven years of hard work. However, on the wedding night, Laban switched sisters, and the next morning, Jacob woke up to find the ugly sister Leah in his bed. Leah would spend the rest of her life having babies and trying to win the heart of a man who could never love her. She did not know that God loved her and because God saw that she was not loved, he opened her womb and made her fertile, while Rachel was barren. This only created a Baby-Mama-Drama in Jacobs household. The sisters were in a struggle for babies. Then the servants were given to Jacob, and they also had his babies. There was a battle for Jacobs love between two sisters who were emotionally wounded because of their fathers greed. Joseph was a teenager who God had chosen for greatness. He was the love of his father, and the envy of his brothers. His eleven brothers hated him and sold him to strangers who took him shackled in irons to Egypt. The man who bought him was a high official in the land. He put Joseph in charge of his household, but his alluring wife could not keep her eyes off this handsome young slave with the great body. When Joseph refused to sleep with Mrs. Potiphar, she cried rape and caused him to be imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. But God was with this young man, and everywhere he was placed, he was put in a position of authority, until he was promoted to become the prime minister in the land of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. Naomi was a bitter mother-in-law who left own land when her husband took his family to a strange land away from the protection of the God they served. Naomi lost her entire family in this foreign country, her husband, and her two sons. She blamed God for her troubles, but what seemed at first like a bad situation, turned out to be a blessing because God had given her a daughter-in-law who loved her and vowed never to leave her. Her daughter-in-law Ruth married a rich man who was able to provide for both of them. This blessing only took place when they left the place of death to go to the place of life. Naomi and Ruth returned to Bethlehem. Then there was the case of the princess who was raped by her eldest brother, but their father, King David, did not do anything about the situation. As a result, Tamars other brother Absalom murdered the brother who had dishonored their sister. Princess Tamar would remain an emotionally wounded woman for the rest of her life, because of the brother who humiliated her, abused her, and then turned and threw her out of his house. Up until fairly recently, memory used to be mainly considered within the frames of the nation and related mechanisms of group identity. Building on mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion, this form of memory focused on the event as a central category of meaning making. Taking its cue from a number of Anglophone novels, this book examines the indeterminate traces of memories in literary texts that are not overtly concerned with memory but still latently informed by the past. More concretely, it analyzes novels that do not directly address memories and do not focus on the event as a central meaning making category. Relegating memory to the realm of the latent, that is the not-directly-graspable dimensions of a text, the novels that this book analyses withdraw from overt memory discourses and create new ways of re-membering that refigure the temporal tripartite of past, present and future and negotiate what is ‘memorable’ in the first place. Combining the analysis of the novels’ overall structure with close readings of selected passages, this book links latency as a mode of memory with the productive agency of formal literary devices that work both on the micro and macro level, activating readers to challenge their learned ways of reading for memory.

Unique among mission churches of the northern borderlands of colonial Mexico for its ornate architecture and rich iconography, San Xavier del Bac south of Tucson is a pilgrimage destination for countless devotees and tourists. Passing through the façade entry to stand in the nave, one is dazzled by the transept and sanctuary altarpieces of sculpture niches and baroque pilasters, as well as the expanse of the frescoed ceiling. This book is the first study of the iconography at San Xavier since its restoration in the 1990s by an international team of professional conservators. It expands our understanding of the numerous Catholic images and emblems of San Xavier through a close analysis of the newly revealed iconographic elements and an interpretation of the significance of their placement. It also proposes that the selection of specific religious themes and their locations was determined by an unfamiliar convention based on a tree-like design, in which the founder of a religious Order appears as the root and followers above in later branchings—an inversion of the more familiar top-to-bottom hierarchy. Historians Lange and Ahlborn identify all the saintly images and religious elements that adorn San Xavier and suggest how and why they are so arranged. They examine the sculptures and paintings of the church from the façade throughout the cruciform interior in order to determine the organizational concepts that underlie their placement. They note that the selection of images in this Franciscan mission follows traditional Roman Catholic practice for decorating churches in order to instruct novices and reinforce the teaching of conversion in a pictographic catechism of Church doctrine. In short, the book is a dictionary of religious personages and symbols that will help the visitor identify the biblical stories and people portrayed, as well as associated signs and symbols. Entries include a description of the subject, its location, appropriate cross-references, and a bibliography. Recent illustrations by photographer Helga Teiwes and a floor plan facilitate the location of images by visitors. A handsome, large-format book featuring more than one hundred photographs and supporting line illustrations, Lange and Ahlborn’s work confirms the significance of San Xavier’s iconography for art historians, students of religion, and visitors alike. Villa Madama, Raphael's late masterwork of architecture, landscape, and decoration for the Medici popes, is a paradigm of the Renaissance villa. The creation of this important, unfinished complex provides a remarkable case study for the nature of architectural invention. Drawing on little known poetry describing the villa while it was on the drawing board, as well as ground plans, letters, and antiquities once installed there, Yvonne Elet reveals the design process to have been a dynamic, collaborative effort involving humanists as well as architects. She explores design as a self-reflexive process, and the dialectic of text and architectural form, illuminating the relation of word and image in Renaissance architectural practice. Her revisionist account of architectural design as a process engaging different systems of knowledge, visual and verbal, has important implications for the relation of architecture and language, meaning in architecture, and the translation of idea into form.
