Based on the past 30-years' research on the technical and cultural values of China's Grand Canal, this book, based on interdisciplinary research, studies the natural and social background of the evolution and development of different sections of the Grand Canal in different historical periods, as well as the interrelations between the Grand Canal and the Chinese politics, economics, and culture. It also assesses the effects of the Grand Canal on the progress of the Chinese civilization, engineering technology achievement, the natural environment, and the society, providing the readers with an understanding of China's Grand Canal from the perspectives of hydraulic engineering and history.
This book offers an in-depth and comprehensive review on current understanding of regulatory ncRNAs in complex diseases from a view of bioinformatics. It conveys state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and methods for ncRNAs from computational detection, functional prediction, to their roles in diseases. Computational methods used to investigate uncharacterised ncRNAs in diseases are mainly summarized in seven aspects: DNA variation of ncRNAs in diseases, prioritization of disease-related ncRNAs, dysregulation epigenetic factors that regulate ncRNA misexpression (DNA methylation and histone-modification), complex crosstalk across ncRNAs, ncRNAs acted as competing regulators to mediate the expression of protein-coding genes, non-coding RNAs mediated risk pathways, and their contributions to drug target predictions. The generally used data resources of ncRNAs are also listed in the end. This book provides important information on the current progress in the fast-moving fields of bioinformatics for regulatory ncRNAs. It provides a timely and useful reference for computational biologists, specifically with RNA interests, and other related areas.Prof. Xia Li is a Professor and the Dean of College of Bioinformatics Science and Technology, Harbin Medical University, China. Dr. Yun Xiao, Dr. Juan Xu, Dr. Shangwei Ning and Dr. Yunpeng Zhang are from College of Bioinformatics Science and Technology, Harbin Medical University, China.
For more than 40 years, pattern recognition approaches are continuingly improving and have been used in an increasing number of areas with great success. This book discloses recent advances and new ideas in approaches and applications for pattern recognition. The 30 chapters selected in this book cover the major topics in pattern recognition. These chapters propose state-of-the-art approaches and cutting-edge research results. I could not thank enough to the contributions of the authors. This book would not have been possible without their support.
Aquaculture is the art, science and business of cultivating aquatic animals and plants in fresh or marine waters. It is the extension of fishing, resulted from the fact that harvests of wild sources of fish and other aquatic species cannot keep up with the increased demand of a growing human population. Expansion of aquaculture can result with less care for the environment. The first pre-requisite to sustainable aquaculture is clean wate, but bad management of aquatic species production can alter or even destroy existing wild habitat, increase local pollution levels or negatively impact local species. Aquatic managers are aware of this and together with scientists are looking for modern and more effective solutions to many issues regarding fish farming. This book presents recent research results on the interaction between aquaculture and environment, and includes several case studies all over the world with the aim of improving and performing sustainable aquaculture.

Connected vehicles and intelligent vehicles have been identified as key technologies for increasing road safety and transport efficiency. This book presents and discusss the recent advances in theory and practice in connected vehicle systems. It covers emerging research that aims at dealing with the challenges in designing the essential functional components of connected vehicles. Major topics include intra- and inter-vehicle communications, mobility model of fleet and ramp merging, trace and position data analysis, security and privacy.
This book focuses on the development of three novel approaches to build up a framework for the frequency domain analysis and design of nonlinear systems. The concepts are derived from Volterra series representation of nonlinear systems which are described by nonlinear difference or differential equations. Occupying the middle ground between traditional linear approaches and more complex nonlinear system theories, the book will help readers to have a good start to analyse and exploit the nonlinearities. Analysis and Design of Nonlinear Systems in the Frequency Domain provides clear illustrations and examples at the beginning and the end of each chapter, respectively, making it of interest to both academics and practicing engineers.
