At its heart, Rosanna Young Oh’s debut collection of poems, The Corrected Version, is an immigrant narrative that ponders what it means to be an American. Who or what do we leave behind when we move to a new country? Who or what do we take with us? Traveling through Korean folklore, paintings, Long Island, a family grocery store, and Buddhism, the book meditates on the process of making meaning out of the lives we create for ourselves—a task that has the speaker relentlessly questioning, investigating, erasing, and rewriting the stories she ultimately chooses to inherit as her own. A book about survival, it is also a journey made gentle by moments of love and compassion.
This book investigates 1 Corinthians 1-4 from a rhetorical and social perspective and explores that a divisive culture of rhetorical and paternal elitism lies behind the schisms and problems identified in the letter. This culture appears to have been shaped to some extent by the legacy of Cicero. Paul's references to "boasting" and "imitation" indicate both his subversive use, and his critique, of this Greco-Roman wisdom. In the final chapter, this analysis of wisdom traditions and their social consequences among first-century Corinthians leads to a critical reflection on similar dynamics among Korean Christians in twenty-first-century Korean-Confucian culture. In particular, Korean Protestants are encouraged to take a more positive stance towards Confucian wisdom traditions (as exemplified by T'oegye's legacy), and some insights are suggested into the ethics of imperial worship, ancestral veneration, and ethnic exclusivity.
I was in Kobe, Japan in 1941. My father had been doing a business, which made Japanese cookies and delivered to the local retail stores. I thought that the business was good, so he settled down there for 14 years until he died of high fever. Then, my mother and 3 sons, including me, moved to South, Korea. When I was 10 years old, Korean War broke out. I went to the uncle’s for my shelter during the war, and suffered hardship as a farming laborer even if I was young boy. What I worked for my uncle was to feed the working cow, and to go to school while I was studying after school. After the war, I stayed with my family until I finished middle high school. After I graduated high school, I went to Korean Air Force for serving my duty, so I could use my spare time, which meant to attend college in the afternoon class to be an officer. Right after 4 years, I became an officer and served for Intelligence field handling North Korean affairs.

The bride and the groom in traditional wear stood opposite each other, but the table was placed between them. The usher of the ceremony told the bride to bow to the groom, and in return the groom had to bow in courtesy to the bride. The rite of bowing one after the other would be the peak of the ceremony, and then the reception would be held. Mother and Father became husband and wife right after the wedding ceremony. Then their future was up to them.
