One day in history changed the course of the Islamic nation for all time to come. It deepened the differences between Islam's both main branches, the Sunni and the Shi'ite. It created states and undermined others. It had an impact which not many people in any place or time can truly fathom. That date is: October 14, 680 A.D. when the younger grandson of the Prophet of Islam, namely Hussain son of Ali ibn Abu Talib, was martyred together with all males of his family, with the exception of his ailing son Ali, and of his few supporters who stood with him to the end. This date is referred to as Ashura, the tenth of Muharram, which has been commemorated since that year and will continue to be commemorated till the end of time. This book details the events, social and political, that led to the martyrdom of Hussain son of Ali and its aftermath as well as the biographies of nine descendants of Hussain who are referred to by Shi'ite Muslims as the Infallible Imams. This book is full of history and, for the sympathetic reader, it is full of admonishment. It is a tale of heroism unmatched in the entire history of mankind.

This is not an ordinary book by any standard, and simply going through its table of contents will tell you why. The author takes you on a journey to the 6th Century A.D. where events and incidents of this book started, meticulously detailing life in the Arabian Peninsula during the period of time that preceded the birth of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammed. Then he details the struggle of the Prophet and his followers to survive in the most hostile environment and among the most ruthless people. After that, he gives you an idea about unfortunate events that followed Muhammed’s demise and how those who were the closest people to him during his lifetime betrayed him and his message thereafter, confiscating the estate of his only daughter, Fatima. A chapter about his wives is included as well in addition to one about the Holy Qur’an and why it is called a miracle. Many sayings of the Prophet of Islam on various subject-matters have been included, too, giving you an idea about how Muhammed thought and what he preached. A Glossary is finally added for the benefit of those who study or teach the Islamic faith either academically or out of curiosity. Perhaps the most interesting contents of this book are two very important pacts which Muhammed signed, one with the Jews of Medina, and another with the Christians of Najran, Yemen. These pacts shed light on the Prophet’s tolerance and genuine desire for a peaceful coexistence between the Muslims on the one hand and followers of the Jewish and Christian faiths on the other.

Fatima, daughter of the Prophet of Islam, did not enjoy this life for long and passed away only few days after the demise of her father. She was not sick; rather, grief and sorrow snatched his soul away. This book sheds light on certain historic circumstances as well as on the individuals who were bitter enemies of her husband, Ali ibn Abu Talib, and who were jealous of his merits and accomplishments. The author wrote this book initially in response to another written by someone who cast doubts about certain very serious and shameful facts which the author of this book details. He cites numerous references (more than three hundred and fifty) written by historians and biographers from both branches of the Islamic faith and throughout the Islamic history. One who reads this book with an open mind will conclude that Fatima died prematurely, and that, ironically, those who were responsible for her early death have since the very first Islamic century been glorified by the vast majority of the Muslims, that even the whereabouts of her grave remain unknown, something which she herself desired and planned. Who were those people? Why did they disrespect the “Head of the Women of the World,” the mother of the two masters of the youths of Paradise and wife of the Prophet’s right hand, the people who even confiscated her inheritance from her revered father? This book answers all these questions and many more.

YASIN T. AL-JIBOURI is an Iraqi-American writer, author, editor and translator who has as many as 54 titles to his credit. Details of these works and of his other activities are provided in the Preface to this book as well as front cover images of some of these works on pages 46-75. He holds a Masters' degree in English from an American university, and he taught English in his home country, Iraq, and in Saudi Arabia and the United States. Presently, he is writing his major work titled Allah: The Concept of God in Islam in two volumes as well as A Dictionary of Islamic Terms, also in two volumes. This book is an attempt to bring Christians and Muslims of the world closer to each other, to bridge the gap between, to establish an alliance among them, so that they may together be able to face the challenges of the present and of the future. One of these challenges is extremism, the new menacing plague that is endangering the lives of so many people from both creeds and from others. Knowledge, right and accurate knowledge, is powerful, and such power can be put to good use: to clear misconceptions, remove doubts and suspicions and establish trust and understanding among followers of both creeds. Philosophically, this book cites many first-hand references to prove that, unfortunately, present day Christianity, regardless of any of its many denominations, has truly distanced itself from the original word preached by Jesus Christ. It traces the times and circumstances when concepts of "son of God", "Holy Trinity" and "salvation" crept into Christianity and distorted the pristine faith brought by Christ. At the same time, it highlights Qur'anic verses that beautifully paint a portrait of Jesus Christ and his saintly virgin mother, Mary, testifying to the truth brought by Christ, to his miracles, guidance and truth. The information is presented in a flowing style that captures the attention of any reader, including one who just is looking for a good story to enjoy.

It discusses three prominent individuals who were executed by the dictatorial government of Saddam Hussein due to their dissent and despite their prominent status as scholars, theologians, thinkers and philosophers who deserve a prominent place in the annals of history. The world is yet to grant them the recognition they deserve, and this book is a humble attempt to introduce them to the conscience of the world. The most prominent among them is Muhammed-Baqir al-Sadr who is famous worldwide for two of his scholarly works: Iqtisaduna (Our Economics) and Falsafatuna (Our Philosophy). He invented a theory about an interest-free banking system which has been hailed as a rebuttal to the capitalist, socialist and Marxist theories of how the financial system of a nation ought to be. His sister, known as “Bint al-Huda,” was a storywriter, social organizer and poetess who used her pen to fight the immoralities of the regime of the “Butcher of Baghdad”. Muhammed Muhammed-Sadiq al-Sadr is the most senior of the three, yet this did not prevent the regime from executing him due to the large following he had, his popularity and outspoken criticism of the oppressive policies of the regime, a man who will always be remembered for his scholarship, dynamic personality and courage.
