Chinese dual language immersion (DLI) education experienced unprecedented growth in recent years; hence, it has become critical that Chinese DLI research catches up to inform Chinese DLI teachers and administrators of the most effective ways to teach and run their programs. The purpose of Chinese-English Dual Language Immersion Programs: Content Area Instruction, Learners, and Evaluations is to explore three DLI themes that are under-researched: content area instruction, learners, and evaluations. The first section of this edited volume is dedicated to exploring current teaching designs and practices in different content subjects in Chinese DLI programs in order to make useful teaching suggestions to the programs. The second section includes studies which look into K-12 Chinese DLI learners’ learning variables such as motivations, learning strategies, learner perception and engagement, and learner background differences. The last section of this edited volume intends to fill the research gap by including studies which adopt various methods to evaluate Chinese DLI students’ target language level to better illustrate their learning progress in different language skills.

It has recently reached mainland China as well.
Human sensory perception of clothing involves a series of complex interactive processes, including physical responses to external stimuli, neurophysiological processes for decoding stimuli through the biosensory and nervous systems inside the body, neural responses to psychological sensations, and psychological processes for formulating preferences and making adaptive feedback reactions. Clothing biosensory engineering is a systematic and integrative way of translating consumers’ biological and sensory responses, and psychological feelings and preferences about clothing, into the perceptual elements of design. It is a link between scientific experimentation and commercial application to develop economic solutions to practical technical problems. The Mogao Grottoes, a World Heritage Site in northwestern China, are located along the ancient caravan routes—collectively known as the Silk Road—that once linked China with the West. Founded by a Buddhist monk in the late fourth century, Mogao flourished over the following millennium, as monks, local rulers, and travelers commissioned hundreds of cave temples cut into a mile-long rock cliff and adorned them with vibrant murals. More than 490 decorated grottoes remain, containing thousands of sculptures and some 45,000 square meters of wall paintings, making Mogao one of the world’s most significant sites of Buddhist art. In 1997 the Getty Conservation Institute, which had been working with the Dunhuang Academy since 1989, began a case study using the Late–Tang dynasty Cave 85 to develop a methodology that would stabilize the deteriorating wall paintings. This abundantly illustrated volume is the definitive report on the project, which was completed in 2010.
Database technology is an important subject in Computer Science. Every large company and nation needs a database to store information. The technology has evolved from file systems in the 60’s, to Hierarchical and Network databases in the 70’s, to relational databases in the 80’s, object-oriented databases in the 90’s, and to XML documents and NoSQL today. As a result, there is a need to reengineer and update old databases into new databases. This book presents solutions for this task. In this fourth edition, Chapter 9 - Heterogeneous Database Connectivity (HDBC) offers a database gateway platform for companies to communicate with each other not only with their data, but also via their database. The ability of sharing a database can contribute to the applications of Big Data and surveys for decision support systems. The HDBC gateway solution collects input from the database, transfers the data into its middleware storage, converts it into a common data format such as XML documents, and then distributes them to the users. HDBC transforms the common data into the target database to meet the user’s requirements, acting like a voltage transformer hub. The voltage transformer converts the voltage to a voltage required by the users. Similarly, HDBC transforms the database to the target database required by the users. This book covers reengineering for data conversion, integration for combining databases and merging databases and expert system rules, normalization for eliminating duplicate data from the database, and above all, HDBC connects all legacy databases to one target database for the users. The authors provide a forum for readers to ask questions and the answers are given by the authors and the other readers on the Internet.
