This book presents how metasurfaces are exploited to develop new low-cost single sensor based multispectral cameras. Multispectral cameras extend the concept of conventional colour cameras to capture images with multiple color bands and with narrow spectral passbands. Images from a multispectral camera can extract significant amount of additional information that the human eye or a normal camera fails to capture and thus have important applications in precision agriculture, forestry, medicine, object identifications, and classifications. Conventional multispectral cameras are made up of multiple image sensors each externally fitted with a narrow passband wavelength filters, optics and multiple electronics. The need for multiple sensors for each band results in a number of problems such as being bulky, power hungry and suffering from image co-registration problems which in turn limits their wide usage. The above problems can be eliminated if a multispectral camera is developed using one single image sensor.​

Bone remodeling is thought to be regulated by many factors including nutritional status, humoral factors, and biomechanical stress. However, the involvement of the autonomic nervous system, mainly the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), in the modulation of bone remodeling is beginning to receive more attention. Neural innervation of bone has been demonstrated. Both experimental and clinical evidence has indicated the involvement of autonomic nervous system regulation in bone metabolism. The sympathetic neural pathway is so far the only identified link between the potent leptin-dependent central control and bone cells. An intact autonomic nervous system contributes to the maintenance of healthy bone tissue. Conversely, disturbance of the autonomic nervous system could induce abnormal bone remodeling. In this chapter, we review current knowledge about the role of the autonomic nervous system in abnormal bone formation and its association with clinical diseases such as heterotopic ossification, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, postmenopausal osteoporosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, complex regional pain syndrome, Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy, unloading-induced osteoporosis, central or peripheral nervous system damage, and depression-induced osteoporosis. Understanding the mechanism of sympathetic neural signaling in bone remodeling may shed light on a potential treatment avenue for the prevention or reversal of bone loss.

This book introduces a family of large-signal stability-based control methods for different power inverters (grid-connected inverter, standalone inverter, single-phase inverter, and three-phase inverter) in practical applications. Power inverters have stability issues, which include the inverter's own instability as well as the inverter's instability in relation to the other power electronic devices in the system (i.e., weak grid and the EMI filter). Most of the stability analyses and solutions are based on small-signal stability technology. Unfortunately, in actuality, the majority of practical instability concerns in power inverter systems are large-signal stability problems, which, when compared to small-signal stability problems, can cause substantial damage to electrical equipment. As a result, researchers must conduct a comprehensive investigation of the large-signal stability challenge and solutions for power inverters.
