The celebrated lower Cambrian Chengjiang biota of Yunnan Province, China, represents one of the most significant ever paleontological discoveries. Deposits of ancient mudstone, about 520 million years old, have yielded a spectacular variety of exquisitely preserved fossils that record the early diversification of animal life. Since the discovery of the first specimens in 1984, many thousands of fossils have been collected, exceptionally preserving not just the shells and carapaces of the animals, but also their soft tissues in fine detail. This special preservation has produced fossils of rare beauty; they are also of outstanding scientific importance as sources of evidence about the origins of animal groups that have sustained global biodiversity to the present day. Much of the scientific documentation of the Chengjiang biota is in Chinese, and the first edition of this book was the first in English to provide fossil enthusiasts with a comprehensive overview of the fauna. The second edition has been fully updated and includes a new chapter on other exceptionally preserved fossils of Cambrian age, exciting new fossil finds from Chengjiang, and a phylogenetic framework for the biota. Displaying some 250 figures of marvelous specimens, this book presents to professional and amateur paleontologists, and all those fascinated by evolutionary biology, the aesthetic and scientific quality of the Chengjiang fossils.

He wanted to break the situation of the martial arts world that was gradually fading due to the upheaval of time. However, when his reputation was growing, he suddenly disappeared from the martial arts world. In several hundred years, how would the people of this world view those who possessed the secret martial arts technique? What kind of mentality would he have to create the martial arts world that he hoped for, and what kind of mentality would he have to enter society? Was he still kind, or was he tainted by the world? Would he end up in the same mess as the eccentric and continue to be intolerable by the martial arts world? If his experiences were different, why? For an answer, please read "The Stonehenge of the Ink Pen".

Bioleaching of chalcopyrite is always a challenge and research hotspot. The low copper extraction and dissolution kinetics restricted the industrial application of chalcopyrite bioleaching. To solve this problem, the dissolution process and passivation mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching should be first studied, then the rate-limiting steps should be analysed explicitly, and finally the intensifying method can be put forward. Many scholars have made efforts to investigate the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching. However, there is no congruence of opinion as yet. Biohydrometallurgy of Chalcopyrite summarizes and discusses the reported research findings. In addition, this book publishes the related results found by the authors' research. Then, the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching is interpreted. Finally, the process intensification techniques of chalcopyrite bioleaching are provided and discussed. Hence, this book provides useful reference and guidance in both laboratory research and industrial production. - Interprets the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching - Provides feasible technologies for intensifying chalcopyrite bioleaching - Overviews the current situations of chalcopyrite bioleaching - Helps the readers to deeply understand the bioleaching mechanisms of chalcopyrite - Provides topics for future research and potential industrial applications
This book offers an essential introduction to the latest advances in delayed genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) and presents cutting-edge work on the analysis and design of delayed GRNs in which the system parameters are subject to uncertain, stochastic and/or parameter-varying changes. Specifically, the types examined include delayed switching GRNs, delayed stochastic GRNs, delayed reaction–diffusion GRNs, delayed discrete-time GRNs, etc. In addition, the solvability of stability analysis, control and estimation problems involving delayed GRNs are addressed in terms of linear matrix inequality or M-matrix tests. The book offers a comprehensive reference guide for researchers and practitioners working in system sciences and applied mathematics, and a valuable source of information for senior undergraduates and graduates in these areas. Further, it addresses a gap in the literature by providing a unified and concise framework for the analysis and design of delayed GRNs.

ALGEBRAIC NUMBER THEORY provides concisely both the fundamental and profound theory, starting from the succinct ideal theory (Chapters 1-3), turning then to valuation theory and local completion field (Chapters 4-5) which is the base of modern approach. After specific discussions on class numbers, units, quadratic and cyclotomic fields, and analytical theory (Chapters 6-8), the important Class Field Theory (Chapter 9) is expounded, and algebraic function field (Chapter 10) is sketched. This book is based on the study and lectures of the author at several universities.
Offshore platforms are widely used to explore, drill, produce, store and transport ocean resources, and are usually subjected to environmental loading, which can lead to deck facility failure and platform fatigue failure, inefficient operation and even crew discomfort. In order to ensure the reliability and safety of offshore platforms, it is important to explore effective ways of suppressing the vibration of offshore platforms. This book provides a brief overview of passive, semi-active and active control schemes to deal with vibration of offshore platforms. It then comprehensively and systematically discusses the recent advances in active systems with optimal, sliding model, delayed feedback and network-based control. Intended for readers interested in vibration control and ocean engineering, it is particularly useful for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in the fields of system and control community, vibration control, ocean engineering, as well as electrical and electronic engineering.
Natural dyes (mostly yellow) from more than 200 plants or insects were analyzed. The light stability and acid resistance of the most common category of yellow dyes, namely flavonoid compounds, were also studied. The new extraction and analysis methods have been successfully applied to historical textile samples, ranging in age from 150 to 3000 years, from Peru, China and Uzbekistan. We not only identified some of the biological sources of dye components, but also discovered that processing of the dyestuff, e.g. , by rapid heating to inactivate deglycosylating enzymes, can play an important role in determining which dye components are retained on the textiles. The same process also results in dyes that are more light-stable. The data from this study, comprised of HPLC retention times, UV/Visible and mass spectra, will be deposited in an online, freely-accessible database which can be used by scientists and conservators worldwide.
