THE SWEET were the perfect band for a teen audience: Cute guys with long, perfectly shampooed hair. Crazy clothes. Boys to cuddle. Colorful, flashy, funny. Good solid pop music, easy to dance to. Their producers, Chinn and Chapman, were the successful writers of a long line of smash hits. The Sweet started out with very typical basic fare - the bubble-gum music of the early 70s. Their songs Big Wam Bum, Poppa Joe and Co Co became solid disco fox hits. However, these boys also managed to net the rock fans when they turned around on their style with songs such as Teenage Rampage, Ballroom Blitz, Block Buster, Fox on the run and their top hit Love is like Oxygen. Up to this day it is the essence of The Sweet for a great many people. A colourful rainbow of photographs, that's the only way a book on The Sweet could possibly turn out. This band lived the motto of Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll, with the photographer Bubi Heilemann always in close pursuit. Altogether he must have photographed around 200 photo sessions with The Sweet: On tour, backstage, home stories, at weddings and christenings. A special treat would be the double-page spread of Mick Tucker baring all... Bubi Heilemann took pictures of The Sweet throughout the 70s. Brian Connolly left the band in 1979 to start another band: The New Sweet. He died of a heart attack in 1997. The other three kept the project going for a long time. However, Mick Tucker died of leukemia in 2002. Steve Priest lives in the US, his musical output seems limited to his private needs. Only Andy Scott is still on the road, he put a new band together still called The Sweet, and he wrote a beautiful word of greeting for this volume. No other photographer but Bubi Heilemann spent as much time with the band, and thus thousands of fans world-wide have been waiting for this book for years now. Time and again Bubi Heilemann was begged to turn his unique and extensive The Sweet material into a book. Finally the time has come: 2005 sees the publication of The Sweet as yet another part of the successful Bubi Heilemann edition at Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf. This is by far the largest volume ever published on The Sweet, illustrated und produced with lavish attention to details, in a large format & in colour throughout with just a few expections. It contains numerous photographs that have never before been published - a delight for every true fan! Bubi Heilemann provides in-depth information of his time with the band and the photo sessions.
People nowadays often seem to believe that shock rock was invented by Marylin Manson, or maybe Ozzy Osbourne. If only they knew! The first shock rock band ever was actually ALICE COOPER! Vincent Damon Furnier - now officially known amongst us as Alice Cooper - is their front singer, and his horror show on stage was notorious during the 70s. It involved squirming snakes, glaring make-up colours, and a number of unsettling accessories - a guillotine amongst them. Of course, this set-up made for good photographs, and teenie magazines loved to frighten their young readers with them. However, Alice Cooper never made for much of a teen heart-throb. Streaky hair, terrifying style and a decadent image rather appealed to the headbanging audience. Bubi Heilemann, as an excellent photographer always on the lookout for great pictures, took the chance to get Alice Cooper in front of his camera very early on, starting off on a USA tour in 1973. He worked onstage, backstage, in the airplane, and even at the opening of an exhibition in New York, also attended by the artist himself: Salvador Dali! These photographs are unique and very rarely published. The second photo session took place in Germany 1975 - Alice Cooper came to pick up some awards, because the band was really very successful after School's Out turned into an international top hit. Bubi Heilemann photographed the band at his studio, live, and at the hotel. This slim and affordable volume is a valuable document for each and every fan of Alice Cooper, alive and well today, the energy is still there. Seeing the band play live today is an exciting experience, never to be forgotten. Not to forget - this book brings backs memories of the olden days, walking along the school hallways after the bell rang for the last time before the summer holidays, chanting: School's out for summer / School's out forever... ALICE COOPER is a photo collection packed with exclusive and never-before-seen pictures, essential for all fans. This book also features the photographer's memories of working with the band, allowing for fascinating insights into the heart of one of the essential rock bands of the 70s.
The musician Rod Stewart had all it takes to be a superstar. His songs touched a nerve, and his stage show was wild - he flung the mike around like a skipping rope, his performance was breathtaking. He even made it big in America, all it took was the mega hit Sailing. In the 70s he was the perfect teen pin-up with his extreme hair, kinky clothing, rebellious rock musik, great charisma and on top of all that an unmistakable grating voice. His style worked out - the world's most beautiful women fell for him head over heels, and songs like Maggie May, Sailing, Da Ya Think I'm Sexy can hardly be forgotten.. This book follows Rod Stewart from his breakthrough in England all the way to the top of the international music scene. From humble beginnings, Rod Stewart's career continues to soar. In 1994 he received the American Music Award for his life's work. In 2004 he published a new album: Stardust - The Great American Songbook III, it went straight to the top of the American charts. The last time he'd been up there with one of his songs was 25 years earlier with the album Blondes Have More Fun.
