There are many things that Christians are to be—loving, gracious, forgiving, meek, bold, self-controlled, etc…, but nice is not amongst them. Yet, the Christian church has often chosen to be permissive instead of loving, self-centered instead of gracious, self-interested instead of gracious and hospitable, and worldly instead of holy. The work of the church is to revolve around the Gospel, not program after program, and the Gospel is about making men right with God, not about increasing the membership of a church to support building projects and large staffs. Part of the role of the pastor and teacher is to speak truth into the culture and into the church. Such is the purpose behind the essays contained in this book. My hope in sharing them is that they may serve as a reality check for those outside of my own fellowship. The word nice is derived from the Latin word meaning, “without knowledge,†it is my hope that no serious Christian is ever guilty of such a label.
This is a primer on Systematic Theology, designed to introduce the student or the general reader to the vocabulary necessary to understand a deeper study of theology to follow. Originally designed as a textbook for Advanced High School Seniors or Bible College Students, this should be accessible to all who are interested in the topic. Covers seven Loci of Systematics (Prolegomena, Theology Proper, Anthropology, Christology, Soteriology, Ecclesiology, and Eschatology) along with a chapter on Symbolics (the study of the Creeds).
Thirty-five years ago, Rocky Bayou Christian School was founded to teach students from a foundation of scripture, not on the basis of secular principles. These essays are designed to honor the men who founded the school and who have laid a foundation for the years to come.
Modern Secular Humanistic society has drifted away from the Gospel, teaching that when you die, you simply cease to exist. The Bible speaks a very different message, which will you believe?
This is an overview of the system of theology known as Calvinism or Reformed Theology, given in non-technical language and meant as an introduction for those sitting in the pews and trying to understand Reformed thinking from a big-picture perspective.

The seven letters contained in the book of Revelation are largely meant as a progress report and a snap-shot on the state of worship of these seven churches in the Roman province of Asia (located in modern day Turkey). At the same time, though the times have changed, the nature of man's sinful heart has stayed exactly the same. Though the sins are packaged a little differently today, the modern church is still struggling with the same kinds of difficulties and concerns as were the churches in John's day. Oh, how easily we fall into the same snares over and over again within the church and how much we can learn from the successes and the failures of those who have walked in faith before us. It is my hope, as you reflect on these letters, that you will apply these lessons to your own life and to your own church and that the glory of Christ will shine brightly upon your lampstand.
