Computational Electrodynamics is a vast research field with a wide variety of tools. In physics the principle of gauge invariance plays a pivotal role as a guide towards a sensible formulation of the laws of nature as well as computing the properties of elementary particles using the lattice formulation of gauge theories, yet the gauge principle has played a much less pronounced role in performing computation in classical electrodynamics. In this work the author will demonstrate that starting from the gauge formulation of electrodynamics using the electromagnetic potentials leads to computational tools that can very well compete with the conventional electromagnetic field-based tools. Once accepting the formulation based on gauge fields, the computational code is very transparent due to the mimetic mapping of the electrodynamic variables on the computational grid. Although the illustrations and applications originate from microelectronic engineering, the method has a much larger range of applicability. Therefore this book is of interest to everyone having interest in computational electrodynamics. The volume is organized as follows: In part 1, a detailed introduction and overview is presented of the Maxwell equations as well as the derivation of the current and charge densities is different materials. Semiconductors are responding to electromagnetic fields in a non-linear way and the induced complications are discussed in detail. In part 2, the transition of the theory of electrodynamics, using the gauge potentials, to a formulation that can serve as the gateway to computational code is presented. The proximity of the European Union, the prospect of membership, and actual entry by the New Member States (NMS) increased economic and financial integration in the region, leading to fast economic growth based on sizeable capital inflows. EU membership helped in developing sound macroeconomic and financial stability frameworks in the NMS. However, these frameworks remain work in progress and as such could not safeguard against private sector exuberance or risky policies, especially in the face of an unprecedented global financial crisis. Hence, more prudent policies and further strengthening of policy frameworks, especially with respect to financial stability, seem warranted.
In February 2013, a delegation of Dutch technicians working in Indonesia handed over the book “For Profit and Prosperity”, dealing with the Dutch contribution to public works in Indonesia during the period 1800–2000, to dr. ir. Suyono Sosrodarsono, who was Director General of Water Management (1966-1982) and Minister of Public Works (1983-1988) in Indonesia. In his expression of thanks, dr. ir. Suyono Sosrodarsono noticed that important information was missing in the book, especially in the field of irrigation in modern Indonesia. He suggested that Dutch participants of the irrigation projects in Indonesia since 1965 should provide the missing information by putting their memories on paper. This suggestion was adopted and has resulted in the present anthology, focusing on the rehabilitation and creation of a few irrigation projects with Dutch assistance during the period 1965-2014. Apart from purely technical information, legal frameworks, policies and programs are treated, as well as systems regarding water management, settlement, training and education. Special attention is given to the problematic nature of the West Tarum Canal and to Indonesia’s unique tidal and non-tidal swamp development. The anthology derives its authenticity from the fact that the authors of the various chapters actually participated “in the field”.
