A total of 76 children took part in the consultations, ranging in age from four to seven years, and from several ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child grants children and young people who are able to form a view the right to participate in all decisions that affect them. This work considers the policy context for consultation and participation.
This report sets out a vision for recognising and respecting children's citizenship, and explores ways in which this concept can be built into everyday practices and relationships between adults and young children.
