It looks at case studies of areas to live in Louisville, Kentucky. Based on scores of interviews with college graduates, backed by survey data and Census figures, it provides a clear, historical account of how these spaces arose. Chapters depict, analyze, and compare the Highlands neighborhood with other Louisville boburbs, contrasting them with the ephemeral bohemian quarters and the many suburban subdivisions. The Highlands are also compared with five other boburbs around the USA. Attention is given to the influence of transportation systems in shaping residential, community, and commercial spaces. Deeper cultural reasons for choosing the boburbs or the suburbs are also explored, including the political "big sort" between liberal and conservative places, and Bourdieu’s account of how the distinction between economic and cultural capital shapes how people choose to live where they live. J. Michael Leonard has transcribed two excellent editions of the Bach Partitas, one for flute and one for clarinet. the partitas were taken from those volumes and transcribed for guitar. the goal was to make these absolutely beautiful pieces of music accessible for the guitarist who may not be a virtuoso in ability. Where necessary the pieces were transcribed into guitar friendly keys and the articulation markings were edited so that the slurs and ornamentations would lie well on the guitar fingerboard.The pieces may be performed by either a fingerstyle or classic guitarist or with the use of a flatpick. These pieces should be ideal in concert, recital or festival.
A 'conservative radical' is William Alexander Eddie's description of the French virtuoso composer-pianist Charles Valentin Alkan (1813-1888). Judaic culture, the French baroque and German classicism were the main influences on Alkan's musical style, with more radical musical tendencies found in many of the Esquisses op 63. This comprehensive survey takes as its focus a stylistic analysis of Alkan's compositions from the apprentice works to the later 'massed style' etudes; the latter are of considerable length and pianistic difficulty.
