Traditional Chinese Medicine has played an important role in the treatment of COVID-19 in China. As the first batch of national Chinese medicine team in China, the authors shared their experience of treating severe COVID-19 cases with TCM at Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak in China. Twenty severe cases have been selected and reported in this book. The medical history, inspection results and treatment rationales have been described in detail, adequately illustrated with color pictures of the tongues.The book is organized as follows: The etiology and pathogenesis from TCM perspectives are comprehensively discussed in the introduction. Part I includes various theories of different experts. Part II presents reports of the clinical cases one by one.
This book elaborates on the transformation of agricultural development in China into the construction of a “resource and ecologically sound society”, and the coordinated development of industrialization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization in China. It focuses on the multiple goals of transforming the Chinese agricultural development model, inner motivations, approaches, and supporting systems under environmental and resource constraints. The author endeavors to build a theoretical framework for transforming agricultural development model in the construction of a “resource and ecologically sound society". To achieve this, the author addresses successively across seven chapters issues such as the multiple goals of China’s agricultural development transformation under resource and environmental constraints, the transformation of the utilization mode of resources, “resource and ecologically sound agriculture”–oriented agricultural production system transformation, the transformation of commercialized rural service system, and institutional innovations in the “resource and ecologically sound” agricultural transformation.
The reign of Emperor Jiaqing (1796-1820 CE) has occupied an awkward position in studies of China's last dynasty, the Qing. Conveniently marking a watershed between the prosperous eighteenth century and the tragic post-Opium War era, this quarter century has nevertheless been glossed over as an unremarkable interlude separating two well-studied epochs of transformation. White Lotus Rebels and South China Pirates presents a major reassessment of this period by examining how the emperors, bureaucrats, and foreigners responded to the two crises that shaped the transition from the Qianlong to the Jiaqing reign. Wensheng Wang argues that the dramatic combination of internal uprising and transnational piracy, rather than being a hallmark of inexorable dynastic decline, propelled the Manchu court to reorganize itself through modifications in policymaking and bureaucratic structure. The resulting Jiaqing reforms initiated a process of state retreat that pulled the Qing Empire out of a cycle of aggressive overextension and resistance, and back onto a more sustainable track of development. Although this pragmatic striving for political sustainability was unable to save the dynasty from ultimate collapse, it represented a durable and constructive approach to the compounding problems facing the late Qing regime and helped sustain it for another century.
This book aims to present some advanced control methodologies for power converters. Power electronic converters have become indispensable devices for plenty of industrial applications over the last decades. Composed by controllable power switches, they can be controlled by effective strategies to achieve desirable transient response and steady-state performance, to ensure the stability, reliability and safety of the system. The most popular control strategy of power converters is the linear proportional–integral–derivative series control which is adopted as industry standard. However, when there exist parameter changes, nonlinearities and load disturbances in the system, the performance of the controller will be significantly degraded. To overcome this problem, many advanced control methodologies and techniques have been developed to improve the converter performance. This book presents the research work on some advanced control methodologies for several types of power converters, including three-phase two-level AC/DC power converter, three-phase NPC AC/DC power converter, and DC/DC buck converter. The effectiveness and advantage of the proposed control strategies are verified via simulations and experiments. The content of this book can be divided into two parts. The first part focuses on disturbance observer-based control methods for power converters under investigation. The second part investigates intelligent control methods. These methodologies provide a framework for controller design, observer design, stability and performance analysis for the considered power converter systems.
A sub-Riemannian manifold ([italic capitals]M, E, G) consists of a finite-dimensional manifold [italic capital]M, a rank-two bracket generating distribution [italic capital]E on [italic capital]M, and a Riemannian metric [italic capital]G on [italic capital]E. All length-minimizing arcs on ([italic capitals]M, E, G) are either normal extremals or abnormal extremals. Normal extremals are locally optimal, i.e., every sufficiently short piece of such an extremal is a minimizer. The question whether every length-minimizer is a normal extremal was recently settled by R. G. Montgomery, who exhibited a counterexample. The present work proves that regular abnormal extremals are locally optimal, and, in the case that [italic capital]E satisfies a mild additional restriction, the abnormal minimizers are ubiquitous rather than exceptional. All the topics of this research report (historical notes, examples, abnormal extremals, Hamiltonians, nonholonomic distributions, sub-Riemannian distance, the relations between minimality and extremality, regular abnormal extremals, local optimality of regular abnormal extremals, etc.) are presented in a very clear and effective way.
