In the sequel to the Skimming Stone, the immortal wizard Signet is showing the children the underground temple he guards and the connecting passage to the old Victorian sewers of Brighton, when a unicorn named Aloric materialises and asks for Signet's help. Archie, Ally, and their friend, Zonah, are sucked into a whirlpool of intrigue, magic, space travel and danger in the amazing story The Grail of the Unicorn Planet: An Archie Dixon novel. Signet tells the children about the Unicorn's home on the planet Altair, where all the mythical creatures of this world live. The highly advanced creatures co-exist harmoniously in their different tribes and visit other planets. The creatures can mix freely with inhabitants of advanced planets, but on primitive planets such as Earth, they remain hidden or disguised. Occasionally they are seen, thus creating human myths. The Alterians are dying from an unknown disease, so Signet goes off with Aloric to help them, using hyper-space travel. The children, left behind in the sewers, decide to explore. They overhear a plan to steal Faberge eggs from a bank by tunnelling through the sewers, and then almost bump into the evil Vastator, realising that he is behind the mysterious plague on Altair. Will good triumph?

The Anstruther Lass is a historical romance set in the Dundee Jute Mills in 1865. Lana, a young widow from Anstruther, works at a mill and falls in love with a Dutch sailor Stefan, the son of a rich jute trader and shipping magnate. Problems arise when the mill manager, Campbell, also falls in love with Lana and pays local Anstruther smugglers to kill his rival. Meanwhile, a serial killer is targeting sailors in Dundee. The smugglers rescue Stefan from this killer and decide not to assassinate him, but sell him to the British Navy. Her sister hides a pregnant Lana until the birth of Lanas baby, and another sister pretends the baby is hers to ensure the babys acceptance in society. When the baby is weaned, Lana returns to work, and Campbell offers to provide for her if she will become his mistress. When Lana rejects his offer, Campbell angrily shouts that it is useless to wait for Stefan as he paid the smugglers to kill him. Lana, incredulous, confronts the smugglers. Ton, Stefans father, arrives in Anstruther to find his son and meets Lana, only to be told of his disappearance. Where is Stefan? Is he alive or dead? Will Lana ever see him again?

The Earth's climate is already warming due to increased concentrations of human-produced greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and the specter of rising sea level is one of global warming's most far-reaching threats. Sea level will keep rising long after greenhouse gas emissions have ceased, because of the delay in penetration of surface warming to the ocean depths and because of the slow dissipation of excess atmospheric carbon dioxide. Adopting a long perspective that interprets sea level changes both underway and expected in the near future, Vivien Gornitz completes a highly relevant and necessary study of an unprecedented age in Earth's history. Gornitz consults past climate archives to help better anticipate future developments and prepare for them more effectively. She focuses on several understudied historical events, including the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Anomaly, the Messinian salinity crisis, the rapid filling of the Black Sea (which may have inspired the story of Noah's flood), and the Storrega submarine slide, an incident possibly connected to a sea level occurrence roughly 8,000 years old. By examining dramatic variations in past sea level and climate, Gornitz concretizes the potential consequences of rapid, human-induced warming. She builds historical precedent for coastal hazards associated with a higher ocean level, such as increased damage from storm surge flooding, even if storm characteristics remain unchanged. Citing the examples of Rotterdam, London, New York City, and other forward-looking urban centers that are effectively preparing for higher sea level, Gornitz also delineates the difficult economic and political choices of curbing carbon emissions while underscoring, through past geological analysis, the urgent need to do so.

Unfortunately the malevolent Vastator is also around and his disruptive influence causes complications. The children face a race against time to fit together the pieces of the puzzle in order to reach th allotted window to return to home and safety.
