This book offers a comprehensive overview of the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuels, and discusses the applications of radiation, particularly spallation neutrons and gamma rays. The unspent nuclear fuel of a reactor amounts to roughly 95 per cent of the loaded fuel. It contains both fertile and fissile fuels, minor and higher actinides and radioactive fission products. In 2015, out of approximately 4 million metric tons of spent fuel, only 90,000 metric tons was reprocessed worldwide; the rest was either sent to repositories, kept for cooling down, or put on a waiting list for future reprocessing. With regard to the direct reutilization of spent nuclear fuel, the new technique of ‘Energy Amplifiers’ has attracted considerable attention among the nuclear energy community. Presenting extensive information on this technique, the book is divided into eight major sections: (i) spent nuclear fuel and alternative transmutation methods, (ii) general concept of accelerator-driven subcritical systems (ADSS), (iii) spallation neutron sources and the possibility of incineration, (iv) requirements for nuclear data, (v) transmutation of spent nuclear fuel and extension of the fuel cycle, (vi) spallation neutron production facilities, (vii) major experimental facilities for ADSS, and (viii) software tools for the design and modelling of ADSS. The book is ideally suited as a textbook for graduate students as well as a reference guide for researchers and practitioners.

Numerous semiconducting photoelectrodes were comprehensively considered for electrochemical generation of current by using radiation in terms of continuous and effective trap as well as exchange of solar power. This dissertation illustrate the synthesis and characterization of polycrystalline cadmium selenide/trivalent ion like aluminum doped cadmium selenide/ monovalent ion like copper doped cadmium selenide thin films. Solar cells maintain great hopes to be used an environmental friendly and economically feasible renewable power sources. For this purpose semiconductor materials are being investigated. In the present investigation, deposition of cadmium selenide/aluminum and copper doped cadmium selenide samples by dip method applying amorphous as well as metallic templates. Aluminum trichloride, cadmium sulfate, ammonia,trichloroacetic acid, aluminum trichloride, sodium selenosulphate and copper chloride were utilized to deposit the samples. Diverse depositary considerations were outlined to acquired excellent samples. The materials have been characterized via XRD technique, SEM method, optical absorption measurement and electrical characteristics. The sample undergoes photoelectrochemical and thermoelectrical determination. Cadmium selenide films show dark red in color. For aluminum and copper doped samples different shades and dark brown color was obtained correspondingly. The extreme thickness of cadmium selenide became observed 0.54μm, aluminum doped sample indicates 0.74 μm as well as 0.70μm for copper doped samples. Each sample indicates hexagonal structure. Invariably the first story teller is a mother. Every story must have happy ending to have lasting appeal. May be in a profession one puts lots of hard work to make it sound perfectly natural but I doubt any professional can make it as convincing as the natural, original way of a mother who while narrating the story instills moral values and thus creates the desired impact. Such stories leave an everlasting impression on the psyche and personality for all years to come. Those stories become unforgettable. Possibly it is either the story or the skill of story teller or combined effect of both. Narrations often combining certain true episodes with imaginative fiction would often have happy ending with goodness prevailing over evil. Happy endings are what every one looks up to and are very appealing and pleasing. The science of food and nutrition is very complex. Nutrition science like many other fields of science is evolutionary and there are always conflicting research outcomes that need to be carefully evaluated. We ingest hundreds of dietary components every day and understanding various metabolic pathways and the effect of interactions of various dietary components in vivo is rather challenging. Recent advances in genetic research fostered the emergence of new disciplines such as nutrigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics which can shed light on the molecular level interaction between dietary nutrients and the genome. These technologies provide the vision for future nutrition research that may unravel how the diet/genome interactions modifies the phenotype. Food may not be the overall cure for the treatment of every possible disease, but the importance of food in both causing and relieving certain problems cannot be neglected. This is one of the most researched topics and there is a lot written about it. However, this book is probably the only text that provides up to date information on the various interrelated topics on food and nutrition that would be of interest to wider community.

The book is an exposition of life behind the glamour. It speaks on the pains the artist undergoes to create his image and more to retain the intellection. The stories are based on personal interactions that could never become public. Even if some plots trickled out it failed to arouse concern and empathy. These anecdotes underline various phases of Hindi cinema and despite all its technical superiority, it could not shrug off the system that demeans artists once they are not patronized or engaged. It has references to individuals, film families and some unsaid instances that built the concept of the book. A major portion of the book is devoted to the second rung of artists or character artists, whose contributions howsoever prodigious and impressionable have often been ignored. Cinema pandered more to the star system than its realities. A character artist remains in focus till he is there. Many names that enthused the box office charts are long erased. Rightly everything that glitters is not glamour. The book quotes instances of sham camaraderie in the film world that in reality is ruthless and operates without remorse. Yet, it continues to attract and absorb new talent and that is the peculiarity of show business.

I had the opportunity to work with the author, Vinod Kapoor, at both Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR). His writings always carried clarity of opinion. The book is not a history of broadcasting but gently touches the contours of that chequered march of broadcasting though in an interesting manner. The author has written with flowing interest, subjects like the controversy about language, the way dramas gained prominence, the scene at the AIR during the Mahatma Gandhi assassination and also when the nation attained freedom. There are references to how AIR helped Hindi cinema grow and provide a stream of artists it nurtured. He recapitulates the contributions of some known broadcasters with anecdotal references that shaped the medium. He has strongly expressed his displeasure on denying functional freedom to the professionals, which Prasar Bharati Act had promised. He has not minced expressions in excoriating the non-professionals take charge, which, in reality, brought the downfall of Public Broadcasting. There are points where he could not restrain his anguish but that went with reason and mood. Broadcasting is a very vast subject and one cannot cover every aspect of it. Yet, the author has made a valiant attempt. The author has flair for writing and done some of the chapters with extra zest like his essays titled Zest for Music, Voices That Ring or The Mentors. This reminded me of his research on certain individuals, which showcases the enormity of broadcasting. There is amplified mention of veteran actors Jahanara Kajjan, Achla Sachdev, Om Prakash and film composers, Roshan and Ravi, who represented the entire gamut of artists who scored big later.
