Imagine a management philosophy based not upon serving a company's customers, but on serving the company's employees. Vineet Nayar, CEO of HCL Technologies in India, has put such a philosophy into practice with remarkable results. His "employee first, customer second" mantra has been recognized globally as an example of organizational innovation, and was deemed a "new and radical management philosophy" ripe for the picking in the Western world by Business Week. In this book, Nayar himself describes his blunt refusal to treat the flesh and blood of HCL--its people--as "human resource" or as "intellectual capital" or even as an asset like all its other assets-and how his unique perspective led to an holistic transformation of his organization. By putting employees on top of the organizational pyramid, he argues, your company can fully realize the value created in the interface between customers and employees. This book leads managers and executives through the five core aspects of Nayar's approach, demonstrating how to create a sense of urgency, overhaul incentives and reporting structures, foster transparency in communications and feedback, provide platforms for achievement and personal growth, and finally recognize the potential of every individual in the organization. The "Employee First" philosophy should be the fulcrum of the transformation journey of any organization.
This knowledge of basic sciences coupled with a keen clinical sense, attention to detail and good decision-making skills is the defining characteristic of Critical Care. However, medical knowledge of the nature needed for an exacting practice of Critical Care also requires renewal as technology in the ICU and understanding of disease processes evolve with the passage of time. This monograph has been created to fill this gap. While Critical Care is an established specialty in many parts of the world, only in recent years it has received some attention in India. It is therefore appropriate that this monograph has been planned, keeping in view the growing interest in this specialty. Some of the chapters are detailed while others provide an overview of the subject, but each one has been written in keeping with the challenges of our present times. Many of the important issues related to the practice of Critical Care in our country have been covered in this monograph. This publication has been made possible through the untiring efforts of all faculty members and with the help of a grant from one of the companies. Critical Care Update will hopefully serve consultants, junior doctors, nurses and paramedical staff as a handy book to guide practice and decision-making in the future.

This book explores the Indian tradition of liberalism through a critical intellectual biography of Valangaiman Sankaranarayana Srinivasa Sastri (1869–1946). A notable politician, diplomat and educationist in colonial India, Sastri was a founding member of the National Liberal Federation and was one of the leading liberals — often dismissed as ‘a body of sycophants and self-seekers’ — of the post-1918 period of Indian pre-independence history. Through Sastri, the book shines a light on the contributions of liberals in Indian political history and challenges the convenient binaries in Indian historiography. Examining the role that liberals like Sastri played in bridging the gap between the officials and the nationalists, it traces the practice of liberal politics in the post-1918 period of Indian nationalist struggle and the broader contours of Indian liberalism. Accessible, comprehensive and scholarly, this book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of Indian history, especially the nationalist movement, political thought, and South Asian studies.
Nanomaterials contain some unique properties due to their nanometric size and surface functionalization. Nanomaterial functionalization also affects their compatibility to biocompatibility and toxicity behaviors. environment and living organism. This makes functionalized nanomaterials a material with huge scope and few challenges. This book provides detailed information about the nanomaterial functionalization and their application. Recent advancements, challenges and opportunities in the preparation and applications of functionalized nanomaterials are also highlighted.
