In order for each local congregation to evangelise its neighbourhood and lead people to Christ, it must be healthy emotionally and spiritually. This is the transformational premise of this standalone workbook. It seeks to assist lay persons, congregational leaders and church officials in applying the biblical principles, as captured in Victor Marshall's innovative Set the Captive Free Resource Guide, to their lives and ministries. Set the Captives Free: 12 Studies for Groups or Individuals, with its twelve studies, is based on a model of discipleship that includes positive emotional health. Having built the above-mentioned premise into the workbook, the author encourages you to use the information in the workbook to help with your progress. As you engage with the material in the workbook which will take you to a deeper level of your life, you will move beyond simply hearing or reading about emotional health and intentionally develop emotional health as you grow in Christ. Session after session, you will engage in a number of processes, journeys and steps through which you can practically apply the biblical principles as you seek to experience a Christ-directed transformation in your life. The aim of providing this material is to assist you in experiencing optimal health.
Emotional Health, an aspect of mental health, can be restored. Emotional, and by extension mental ill-health, does not have to be accepted as an unresolved health issue which cannot be addressed. A main component is the eight (8) inter-related HEALINGS health principles which are: Hope, Exercise, Atmosphere, Lying down (rest), Inter-personal relationship, Nutrition, spiritual Guidance and Sunlight. The intensive programme consists of weekly two-hour presentations, along with a one-hour small group study session each week for twelve (12) weeks. The comprehensive twelve-part series, which is best done live and in-person, creates a significant positive impact, along with the weekend diet detox sessions. The author is an experienced health and wellness advocate who combines a pastor’s heart with his psychology background to produce a resource that will assist individuals, and groups both in the church and local communities in finding healing on various levels. A unique feature is the Twelve ‘Risk’ Categories which highlight the possible causes of emotional ill-health. Furthermore, participants are helped to identify factors which contribute to being emotionally stuck, through the use of tools such as the genogram. The Emotional Health Restoration Programme promotes a healthy lifestyle and highlights issues relating to adverse childhood experiences.
Each individual has been hurt emotionally, physically, psychologically, or spiritually at some point in his or her life. Although some people have been able to address their painful issue and move on, far too many persons resolve that they will never forgive the person who has injured them. Victor D. Marshall holds the view that people who are unable to forgive and let go of past hurts have not experienced healing. In fact, the major principle of On the Road to Forgiveness: Experiencing Healing on the Way is that for a person to forgive, he needs to experience some degree of healing; and to experience healing, an individual needs to forgive themselves and others. Out of this audacious perspective, Victor has developed eight principles, on which each chapter is built. Marshall then identifies five stages that every individual needs to pass through in order to experience healing and move on with his or her life. In his biblically grounded, insightful, and well-researched book, Victor uses a psycho-spiritual approach to illustrate the impact of forgiveness on our lives. A key element of this volume, On the Road to Forgiveness is the practical cases he includes to provide analytical discussions. If you are struggling with issues of forgiveness, this book identifies ways by which you can overcome living in the past. Victor also shares some major discoveries about the psychological benefits of forgiving others, one of which is that forgiveness contributes to the fulfillment of various psychological needs. As you turn the pages of this intriguing book, you will be helped to experience emotional freedom, be encouraged to develop your spirituality further, and ultimately grasp the importance of focusing on issues of eternal value. May the Divine One be with you on this journey!
This volume presents a conceptual, historical, anthropological, and sociological review of how culture affects our experience and expression of romantic love. What is romantic love and how is it different from and similar to other kinds of love? How is romantic love related to sex and marriage in human history and across contemporary cultures? What cultural factors mediate attraction in love? These are some of the questions the volume explores through its interdisciplinary yet focused lens. Much of the current research evidence suggests that love is a universal emotion experienced by a majority of people, in various historical eras, and in all the world’s cultures. Yet, love displays in different ways because culture has an impact on people’s conceptions of love and the ways they feel, think, and behave in romantic relationships. This volume summarizes classical knowledge on love and culture while at the same time focusing sharply on recent studies and cutting-edge research that has advanced the field. Divided into three parts, the volume begins by defining and analyzing the concept of romantic love and interdisciplinary approach to its study in cultural context. Part II traces the origin and evolution of romantic love both in various places throughout the world and various time periods throughout history. Part III presents the revolutionary expansion of romantic love ideas and practices in the late 20th and early 21st centuries in various parts of the world, focusing particularly on the development of romantic love as a cultural ideal of the modern cultures. Finally, the book concludes by summarizing the major achievements in this field of study and predicts future development. A timely and thoughtful addition to the literature, Romantic Love in Cultural Contexts delivers thought-provoking insights to researchers in relationship scholarship, sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies, and all those interested in the universal human concept of love. Overall I find Dr. Victor Karandashev is an excellent and fine scholar who has a firm grasp of both the fundamental principles of cross-cultural research and of anthropology. In our increasingly connected world Romantic Love in Cultural Contexts updates and adds to the descriptions and explanations of similarities and differences in romantic love across generations and cultures. Romantic love encompasses the life span, rather than being a phenomenon largely confined to youthful years. The topic of this project concerns the deepest of our sentiments and pervades life from birth to death. This book contributes to better knowledge of this phenomenon across generations.
