From the beloved and charismatic wide receiver for the 2012 Super Bowl–winning New York Giants comes a root-for-the-underdog memoir about always believing in yourself. Victor Cruz, the Super Bowl-winning and record-breaking wide receiver, is best known for his explosive plays and salsa touchdown celebrations. While his meteoric rise in the NFL looked like the result of a magical year, it was actually a lifetime in the making. Raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Victor overcame numerous setbacks through hard work, perseverance, and the support of his loving family—from his grandmother who gave him his signature dance moves; to his late father, a former firefighter, who introduced him to football and taught him how to play; to his hard-working, single mother who never let him give up in the face of a challenge. They all helped to keep him on the right path, as did his coaches, but Cruz’s journey was never easy. There were academic struggles, injuries, and more. In this inspiring, never-before-seen account, Cruz pays tribute to the people and places that made him the man he is today, recounts his most defining moments, and illustrates how his hardships ultimately unleashed his impenetrable will to win.
“It may seem like I came out of the blue. But, my road was long, windy, full of hurdles, and even some dead ends. I lost family. I lost friends. I even lost my way. When I reached what felt like rock bottom, I realized I had a responsibility to everyone who believed in me and to kids, like me, who just needed a chance and something to believe in.”—from the epilogue of Out of the Blue Victor Cruz, the Super Bowl-winning and record-breaking wide receiver, is best known for his explosive plays and salsa touchdown celebrations. While his meteoric rise in the NFL looked like the result of a magical year, it was actually a lifetime in the making. Raised in Paterson, New Jersey’s gritty Fourth Ward, Cruz overcame numerous setbacks through hard work, perseverance, and the support of his loving family—from his grandmother who gave him his signature dance moves; to his late father, a former firefighter, who introduced him to football and taught him how to play; to his hard-working, single mother who never let him give up in the face of a challenge. They all helped to keep him on the right path, as did his coaches, but Cruz’s journey was never easy. There were family tragedies, academic struggles, injuries, and more. In this inspiring, never-before-seen account, Cruz pays tribute to the people and places that made him the man he is today, recounts his most defining moments, and illustrates how his hardships ultimately unleashed his impenetrable will to win. Out of the Blue is a candid and moving reflection of an overlooked and undersized athlete with an uncommon last name in American football that was determined to beat the odds and earn his chance to succeed.

Always Out-Numbered, Never Out-Fought " ..... the Philippine Constabulary Jungle Patrol, the Story of the Philippine Constabulary (1901 - 1936) by Vic Hurley Hurley's remarkable and hard-to-find (1938) book about an obscure and heroic quasi-military force, the Philippine Constabulary, is now re-issued by Cerberus Books in a new, improved edition containing all of the original text and new material. The original edition is rarely for sale, and costly if found. This book details America's first experiment with jungle guerilla warfare and America's first experiment with the use of local native personnel as a police or military force under the command of 'foreigners' - American and European. Both of these military experiments are studied, even today, by West Point officers and cadets. Professional and amateur military historians and strategists, and historians from the West, Southeast Asia, and the Mid-East, as well as the families of these mythically heroic men, often search in vain for this rare book. At the end of the Spanish - American War the policy of the McKinley administration and the military authorities in the Philippines prohibited the use of the more than 70,000 U.S. troops in the islands, to suppress the nascent Philippine Army, the guerilla bands of independence warriors, and the outlaws, pirates, and brigands who had arisen. Initially the native battles were for Philippine independence, however the conflicts deteriorated into harsh and bloodthirsty attacks on foreign occupiers and peaceful villagers, alike. The Constabulary was, in reality, a small, poorly armed, 'black force' acting on behalf of an ineffective U.S. military and a politically infected Philippine Commission. Hurley, an Honorary Third Lieutenant in the Constabulary, recounts vividly and dramatically the real origin, handicaps, growth, development, use, strategies, and key battles of this force that many credit with being the single most important element in the Philippines' development of democratic self-rule.

This book provides a critical introduction to the principles and institutions that make up the Spanish Constitution, which was enacted in 1978. It first explains the process of transition from Franco's dictatorship to democracy, in order to understand the historical circumstances under which the Constitution was framed. After offering a theory to justify the authority of the Constitution over ordinary laws, the book proceeds to explain the basic principles of the Spanish political regime, as well as the structure of its complex legal system. Later chapters focus on various institutions, such as the Crown, Parliament and the Government. A specific chapter is devoted to the territorial distribution of power between the State, the regions and local government. The last two chapters deal with the constitutional role of courts, and the protection of fundamental rights. The book includes some reflections on the challenges that lie ahead and the constitutional reforms that may need to be considered in the future.
