From the 1890s through the 1920s, the postcard was an extraordinarily popular means of communication, and many of the postcards produced during this "golden age" can today be considered works of art. Postcard photographers traveled the length and breadth of the nation snapping photographs of busy street scenes, documenting local landmarks, and assembling crowds of local children only too happy to pose for a picture. These images, printed as postcards and sold in general stores across the country, survive as telling reminders of an important era in America's history. This fascinating history of Macon, Georgia, showcases more than 200 of the best vintage postcards available.

Holy cow, this better be a dream! I yelled ... Moms joke about summer camp follies in Africa has come true. My adventure started with a nightmarish dream. People wore masks, talked in pidgin English, and performed witchcrafts. They behaved as though they were possessed by evil spirits. That reminded me of Dads stories about the Naked Devil Dancer who came out of the forest to perform at dusk. I took these as mere storiesfictitious legendsuntil now! A legend said that the Naked Devil Dancera barely clothed geniewore different face masks and only a Speedo-type suit covering his private body parts. How British Columbia became an international hotspot for submarines, submersibles, Newt Suits, underwater robotics and a host of other cutting-edge undersea technologies. In Deep, Dark and Dangerous, maritime historian Vickie Jensen explores the fascinating story of British Columbia’s rise to become a world leader in the underwater tech industry, tracing BC’s colourful history and bright future as a front runner in the world of subsea technology innovation. This little-known saga began with the remarkable story of Pisces I. In the early 1960s, two commercial hard-hat divers from the Vancouver area, Don Sorte and Al Trice, and engineer Mack Thompson realized that they needed a small manned submersible with robot arms for deep-sea work. They couldn’t find one to buy, so they decided to build their own. Experts told them such things could only be built in specialized facilities and it would be suicidal to try a home-made version. Just over two years and $100,000 later their Pisces I was successfully making two-thousand-foot dives. The three innovators formed a company called International Hydrodynamics (HYCO) as orders started to arrive from around the world. In the process of building some fourteen submersibles, HYCO would serve as an incubator for a generation of experts that would launch an entire industry of subsea companies in BC. Drawing on her background in documenting both history and industry, Vickie Jensen uncovers stories, both historical and current, detailing the submarines, submersibles, robots, torpedo recovery technology and inventions that are responsible for BC’s remarkable and continuing subsea reputation. Written with colour and flair, this is a fascinating and exciting story that anyone can enjoy.

Machiavelli's ambiguous treatment of religion has fueled a contentious and long-standing debate among scholars. Whereas some insist that Machiavelli is a Christian, others maintain he is a pagan. Sullivan mediates between these divergent views by arguing that he is neither but that he utilizes elements of both understandings arrayed in a wholly new way. In this illuminating study, Sullivan shows Machiavelli's thought to be a highly original response to what he understood to be the crisis of his times.

The remaining divisions are written through God given insight. He longs to reveal mysteries to each persons understanding. Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:26-27) The directions to eternal life can be found in this book. I asked Jesus to demonstrate His mighty power through the breathtaking actions He gave me to do. Gods love, mercy, and amazing grace are within each section. This book contains biblical truths that profoundly provide evidence, which proves Jesus Christ is the only sure foundation to eternal life. St. John 3:16 declare, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in him would not perish but, have everlasting life. • Shows how sound, even humming, can change the body’s tissues, rearrange posture, and release long-held emotional trauma and stress • Explains how to listen deeply to the body and discover the rhythms of the areas to be treated as well as how to intuit the sounds required for healing • Offers practices to help you immediately release tension and explains how to use your voice to release emotional conflicts so your body can naturally heal You are made of sound. By listening deeply, you can hear the rhythms and stories of the audible body. With the power of the voice, you can heal the body layer by layer, awakening your cells while releasing long-held tensions, stress, and emotional trauma. In this guide to sound as bodywork, sound healer Vickie Dodd shares her system for addressing trauma locked in the physical body with the healing power of sound. Touching on the function of the nervous system and the parasympathetic breath, she reveals how sound travels the inner pathways of the body, eliciting responses from the body memory of tissues and muscles while bypassing the mind. Sharing examples from sessions with her clients across five decades, she explains how sound can change the body’s tissues, rearrange posture, and release undigested emotional experiences. She teaches how to prepare the body for the work of sounding and releasing and explains the vocabulary of healing sounds, in particular the power of vowels to start the healing process. Presenting experiential exercises, the author explores how to listen deeply and precisely to the body’s stories and discover the rhythms of the areas to be treated as well as how to intuit the sounds required for healing—your unique soundprint. She offers practices to help you immediately experience a release of tension and stress and explains how to use your voice to release emotional conflicts so your body can naturally heal. She explores how to sing love songs to your shadow, transform negative patterns into harmonious ones, and discover the grace and peace that arise as your body’s stories and tissues come to rest. Revealing the vast potential of sound to heal and transform, Vickie Dodd shows how each of us can dialogue with our own body for release, restoration, and vitality.
Montesquieu is rightly famous as a tireless critic of despotism, which he associates in his writings overtly with Asia and the Middle East and not with the apparently more moderate Western models of governance found throughout Europe. However, a careful reading of Montesquieu reveals that he recognizes a susceptibility to despotic practices in the West—and that the threat emanates not from the East, but from certain despotic ideas that inform such Western institutions as the French monarchy and the Roman Catholic Church. Nowhere is Montesquieu’s critique of the despotic ideas of Europe more powerful than in his enormously influential The Spirit of the Laws, and Vickie B. Sullivan guides readers through Montesquieu’s sometimes veiled, yet sharply critical accounts of Machiavelli, Hobbes, Aristotle, and Plato, as well as various Christian thinkers. He finds deleterious consequences, for example, in brutal Machiavellianism, in Hobbes’s justifications for the rule of one, in Plato’s reasoning that denied slaves the right of natural defense, and in the Christian teachings that equated heresy with treason and informed the Inquisition. In this new reading of Montesquieu’s masterwork, Sullivan corrects the misconception that it offers simple, objective observations, showing it instead to be a powerful critique of European politics that would become remarkably and regrettably prescient after Montesquieu’s death when despotism wound its way through Europe.

Love Letters is a collection of soul-born poetry that is an expression of the writer's daily walk with the love of her life-Jesus Christ. The book renders responses to spiritual and emotional struggles and triumphs, prayers and miraculous answers, along with times of supposed distance from God and renewed fellowship and devotion. It is relatable to anyone who is familiar with the pains associated with life, and daily interactions with people who are sometimes not so kind. It keeps us reminded that there is Someone always present to help us pick up the pieces and go on, to love us, to comfort us and encourage us to be all that we can. He-Jesus-is the Lover to whom these songs are written, both the giver, and the object of utmost affection. The writer would also have us to understand that in spite of what the subtitle may suggest, this book, "A Book of Psalms." is in no way to be seen as an attempt to substitute for THE book of Psalms. That simply cannot be. This is why seventy-five poems were written, which is exactly half of the Book of Psalms' one hundred fifty-to suggest a desire to be "at least half the poet that David was" (said with a smile). It is written relative to the life, devotion and struggles of one who walks with God in this present day and time, and it is hopeful that the reader will discern this, and thus be enhanced in some way by it.
This book depicts suffering in relation to victory living. Readers will learn to break free from the fear of commitment to God and spark a greater relationship with Jesus filled with victory.
