Funny how things are remembered differently by persons who share the same space, the same air and even the same pillows and blankets that are tangled and wrapped around legs, arms and bodies; my memories, like fine wine, have been sweetened with time enjoy

In "A Sister for Sam" Sam learns that families can be made up of different types of individuals and not all families are alike. Character Lesson: Family: A family doesn't have to have two people, or ten. It is just people who love each other and who live together. Sometimes a family has a mommy and a daddy and some boys and some girls, and sometimes it means just a mommy or just a daddy, or even two mommies or two daddies. Sometimes there is no mommy or daddy and the children live with an aunt, an uncle or grandparent. Family members are not always the same color, and they don't always look alike. Family doesn't always mean blood relatives, it just means acceptance, love and caring for each other.
In the "Sam and Friends" series, "Cats Keep Out" is a children's story with three dogs and a cat as the characters who learn a valuable lesson about differences. Through their willingness to show empathy and caring, the dogs and the cat are able to develop their own good character traits as a result of incuding those who are not the same as they.
In Rudie and the Blue Van, Rudie and The Barkers learn about "Stranger Danger" and the importance of never going off alone or getting into a vehicle with a stranger. In this Sam and Friends Book, Rudie encounters danger and fear when he is dognapped and it is up to Sam, Boots and Hannibal to help rescue him. The Barkers join forces with their neighborhood friends and the birds to track down the blue van in their efforts to save Rudie. Character/Safety Lesson: Friends should try to protect one another from danger. Never leave your friends to help a stranger by yourself, stay with your friends. Don't ever get into a vehicle with a stranger. If you are forced into a vehicle with a stranger do all that you can to let someone know that you are there. Kick out the taillight, make noise if someone stops the vehicle, and try to get free from the stranger without letting him or her know what you are doing so that you don't put yourself in further danger.
Hannibal Breaks His Promise is a story of how the large yellow cat lets his personal desires come before his promise to his friends. While Sam, Rudie and Boots are off chasing the seagulls along the banks of Lake Erie, Hannibal goes back on his word. When the dogs find out what he has done they are disappointed and faced with a dilemma of what to do. In Hannibal Breaks His Promise, the dogs learn a valuable lesson about democracy and Hannibal learns about the importance of keeping his promises, and the consequences of breaking them. With each of the Sam and Friends stories, a significant character lesson is learned that is shared with the reader.
Thunder of Silence is set in an era where railroads dominate the travel industry and hometown newspapers still thrive. In Huron City, Michigan, a small town along the St. Clair River, mystery and deceit overlap to create a struggle between innocence and selfish passion. It is here where young Daphnia Flanders must confront a code of silence about her past that is so strong it protects secrets, which, if revealed, will forever shatter the peaceful way of life she has come to cherish. In the words of Thaddeus Flanders, "Sometimes I wonder if life doesn't just keep repeating itself until we either get it right or give up. I have come to believe that people do the same things over and over until they get their comeuppance in this world, then life just stands right up and pisses on their shoes and walks away laughing." In Thunder of Silence life travels in circles, and sometimes even angels weep for promises made which we can't keep, and footsteps follow us which we cannot hear until their silence gives way to fear.
