The nine western Palaearctic species of the subgenus Zimmermannia Hering, 1940 and 48 species in the subgenus Ectoedemia Busck, 1907 of the genus Ectoedemia are reviewed. One species in the subgenus Zimmermannia and four species in the subgenus Ectoedemia are described as new: Ectoedemia (Zimmermannia) vivesi A. La?t?vka, Z. La?t?vka & Van Nieukerken sp. n. from southern Spain and Cyprus with unknown host plant, Ectoedemia (E.) hendrikseni A. La?t?vka, Z. La?t?vka & Van Nieukerken sp. n. from southern France on Quercus suber, E. (E.) heckfordi Van Nieukerken, A. La?t?vka & Z. La?t?vka sp. n. from southern England on Quercus petraea and Q. robur, E. (E.) phaeolepis Van Nieukerken, A. La?t?vka & Z. La?t?vka sp. n. from Spain and Portugal probably on Quercus ilex and Q. rotundifolia and E. (E.) coscoja Van Nieukerken, A. La?t?vka & Z. La?t?vka sp. n. from Spain on Quercus coccifera. The following species are redescribed: Ectoedemia (Zimmermannia) hispanica Van Nieukerken 1985, Ectoedemia (Zimmermannia) reichli Z. & A. La?t?vka 1998, Ectoedemia (E.) algeriensis van Nieukerken 1985, E. (E.) pseudoilicis Z. & A. La?t?vka 1998 and E. (E.) alnifoliae van Nieukerken 1985. Ectoedemia albiformae Puplesis & Di?kus 2003 is synonymised with E. spinosella (Joannis, 1908). Ectoedemia jacutica Puplesis 1988, previously synonymised with E. agrimoniae (Frey, 1858), is here synonymised with E. spiraeae Gregor & Povoln? 1983. Updated keys to the subgenus Zimmermannia and the Quercus feeding Ectoedemia are provided.
This title was first published in 2002: In the second half of the 18th century, philosophy provided the fundamental characteristics of architechture. The architects of the 19th century then introduced the empirical comparative study of buildings. This phenomenon has usually been regarded exclusively in terms of historicism, but this is to underestimate the fact that they were architects. The problems for which they sought solutions did not belong to the past, but were part of their own age or the future. The architecture of the past was, to the 19th-century architect, significant to a large degree as a silent witness of a bygone era - a representation of beauty. Historical architecture provided study material for their inquiries into the aesthetic "laws" that they hoped would give the 19th century a splendid contemporary architecture. The art of building, as a way of visibly edifying society, was the most important of all the arts, with architectural theory showing the way to this lofty purpose. This book takes this as a starting point. Focusing on place as well as time, the text discusses the Dutch architects who contributed to this idea, discussing several of the most important, but ultimately seeing their activities, not as the cause, but the expression of movements that continuously changed the face of architecture. The particularly "Dutch" nature of architecture took "visual beauty" to result from the visible success of technical intelligence and creativity rather than philosophy and aesthetics. The grand-19th century themes discussed in the book are, the author suggests, somewhat "un-Dutch", originating as they did from an idealist, intellectual tradition.

Peter Van Woerden, Corrie Ten Boom’s nephew, began his career in the Dutch underground in 1942. He was the organist of the Reformed Church in Velsen and was at his regular post on the bench one Lord’s Day morning as he recounts: “On this particular Sunday, as I sat and mused, I suddenly realized that exactly two years before, on the 10th of May, the Nazi invasion of Holland had begun. As I looked over the congregation I decided that something should be done, something on this Sunday morning to demonstrate that we still were real Dutchmen at heart, something to express our faith and hope in a day of victory when we would again be a free people. The sermon over, I pulled extra stops out on the organ, then firmly and distinctly played the first chords of the Wilhelmus, the national anthem of the Netherlands. There was a rustling downstairs. People stood to their feet. One voice began to sing, then another, and others; and soon, like a mighty sea, the glorious old hymn rolled forth from the overflowing hearts of hundreds of Hollanders as tears streamed down their faces. For that one moment we were a free people in the midst of a dark world full of oppression and persecution.” That gesture landed Peter in prison where, in turn, he experienced, for the first time in his life, a deep hunger for God. After years in the church he met Christ and was truly converted. And thus an adventure in which Peter evaded the Nazis many months until the night he went to grandfather and Aunt Corrie.
