Although the presidency of Dmitry Medvedev is often seen as a continuation of Vladimir Putin’s presidency, with the same policies applied in the same way, this book disagrees, arguing that Medvedev’s foreign policy was significantly different from Putin’s. The book considers especially the relationship between Russia and the Euro-Atlantic security configuration, including both NATO and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, a relationship of great importance to Russia, given constant attention. It discusses a wide variety of issues, including "frozen conflicts", security co-operation and nuclear weapons reductions, highlights the different tone and approach under Medvedev, exemplified especially by his draft European Security Treaty, and shows how after Putin’s return to the presidency there has been a shift in foreign policy, with much great emphasis on influencing Russia’s immediate neighbours and on Eurasian union, and less emphasis on rapprochement and co-operation.

Before kindergarten, Nick Phillips was a funny, happy child. He loved to jump off the couch or bed and land in splits, loved trucks and trains, and could play in the dirt or rocks all day long. Then, in kindergarten, his handwriting suddenly worsened. One day he lost his balance, and after that everything worsened daily. Seven agony-filled weeks later, the horrific diagnosis came: adrenoleukodystrophy. The name for the disease is an ugly word, but the illness itself is a million times uglier. I Love Him More tells Nick’s story and that of his family—a tale of hope, peace, perseverance, and ultimate victory. It follows him from the beginning, through his diagnosis and life with the disease to his passing at the age of twenty-three. This personal narrative and testimony shares a young man’s love for his family and his Heavenly Father, his family’s love for him, and God’s love for them all and for all of you. If you are suffering, you can find encouragement and warmth in the love presented here and know that you are never alone in this life.
Using the 5-tier triage acuity system endorsed by the Emergency Nurses Association and the American College of Emergency Physicians, this brand new handbook delivers quick access to triage protocols for the most common complaints seen in emergency care settings. The 5-tier triage acuity system assigns five acuity levels based on severity and need for intervention to ensure better accuracy and consistency among staff and greatly reduce the risks involved with triage. This cutting-edge system is rapidly becoming the international standard for assessing patients face-to-face in emergency and urgent care clinical units."--Résumé de l'éditeur.
Liberating Temporariness? explores the complex ways in which temporariness is being institutionalized as a condition of life for a growing number of people worldwide. The collection emphasizes contemporary developments, but also provides historical context on nation-state membership as the fundamental means for accessing rights in an era of expanding temporariness - in recognition of why pathways to permanence remain so compelling. Through empirical and theoretical analysis, contributors explore various dimensions of temporariness, especially as it relates to the legal status of migrants and refugees, to the spread of precarious employment, and to limitations on social rights. While the focus is on Canada, a number of chapters investigate and contrast developments in Canada with those in Europe as well as Australia and the United States. Together, these essays reveal changing and enduring temporariness at local, regional, national, transnational, and global levels, and in different domains, such as health care, language programs, and security. The question at the heart of this collection is whether temporariness can be liberated from current constraints. While not denying the desirability of permanence for migrants and labourers, Liberating Temporariness? presents alternative possibilities of security and liberation.
California's Wine Country, its rolling hills studded with ancient oaks and laced with vines. Tourists flock to the charming, historic towns in the "Valley of the Moon," from Kenwood in the north to Schellville in the south. The town of Sonoma may be the birthplace of the State of California. Its central plaza, designed as a parade ground by Mexican general Mariano Vallejo and still ringed by mid-19th century buildings, was the site of the 1846 Bear Flag Revolt. Since 1823, when Mission San Francisco Solano, the last link in the long chain of California missions, was established here, to the famous present-day wineries, restaurants, and shops, Sonoma Valley has been treasured by residents and visitors alike.
