Valerie was born in Manhattan, New York, and moved to North Carolina with her mother shortly after birth. She attended Tarboro High School in Tarboro, North Carolina. She rarely left the town of Tarboro until she decided to attend college. After high school she enrolled at Elizabeth City State University where she received a degree in business administration/management. After graduating from ECSU, she married Lt. Matthew R. Peele and began to travel the world with him during his military career. It was then that Valerie began to write down the things that she endured during these travels. Valerie has a son, Matthew, who is the light of her life and is enjoying his high school days in North Carolina. Valerie has since divorced and remarried Mr. Reuben Miles. They reside in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. While writing is a passion of Valerie's, she still holds a full-time job as a supervisor for a government contractor in Elizabeth City. She hopes to one day be able to pursue her writing career full time.
