Soil can be defined as the space time continuum forming the upper part of the earth’s crust. It is a natural body comprised of solid, liquid and gases that occur on the land surface. Joffe (1949) defined soil as a natural body differentiated into horizons of mineral and organic constituents usually unconsolidated of variable depth, which differs from the parent material below in morphology, physical properties and constitution, chemical properties and composition, and biological characteristics. Soil is one of the most fundamental resources for sustainability and survival. It is one of the most important assets to protect and pass on to future generations. Soil contamination due to anthropogenic and natural sources is increasing day by day because of increasing population, industrialization, and urbanization. Soil is the receptor of many contaminants from various sources. Contamination decreases the quality of the soil and adversely affects soil organisms. For this study, soil samples from thirteen locations contaminated from agricultural, industrial, and organic sources spread over the districts of Alappuzha and Kottayam in Kerala in the south west coast area of India were analyzed to study the changes in soil characteristics and its influence on soil microbial communities and their activities.

Web mining is the application of data mining strategies to excerpt learning from web information, i.e. web content, web structure, and web usage data. With the emergence of the web as the predominant and converging platform for communication, business and scholastic information dissemination, especially in the last five years, there are ever increasing research groups working on different aspects of web mining mainly in three directions. These are: mining of web content, web structure and web usage. In this context there are good number of frameworks and benchmarks related to the metrics of the websites which is certainly weighty for B2B, B2C and in general in any e-commerce paradigm. Owing to the popularity of this topic there are few books in the market, dealing more on such performance metrics and other related issues. This book, however, omits all such routine topics and lays more emphasis on the classification and clustering aspects of the websites in order to come out with the true perception of the websites in light of its usability.In nutshell, Web Mining: A Synergic Approach Resorting to Classifications and Clustering showcases an effective methodology for classification and clustering of web sites from their usability point of view. While the clustering and classification is accomplished by using an open source tool WEKA, the basic dataset for the selected websites has been emanated by using a free tool site-analyzer. As a case study, several commercial websites have been analyzed. The dataset preparation using site-analyzer and classification through WEKA by embedding different algorithms is one of the unique selling points of this book. 1.1 PREAMBLE The concept of financial inclusion can be traced back to the year 1904 when co-operative movement took place in India. It gained momentum in 1969 when 14 major commercial banks of the country were nationalized and lead bank scheme was introduced shortly thereafter. Branches were opened in large numbers across the country and even in the areas which were hither to being neglected. Even after all these measures a sizable portion of population of the country could not be brought under the fold of banking system. Financial inclusion is the availability of banking services at an affordable cost to disadvantaged and Low-income groups. In India, the basic concept of financial inclusion is having a Savings or Current Account with any bank. In reality, it includes loans, insurance services, and much more. The Indian banking system will have to deliver on the plan for financial inclusion. The system, which demonstrated its resilience in the face of the recent global financial crisis, should adopt strong and urgent measures to reach the unbanked segment of society and unlock their savings and investment potentials.
