With a foreword by Cardinal Michael Czerny, a Jesuit like Pope Francis, and an introduction by Donna Orsuto, director of the Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas, this volume highlights Pope Francis as a pastor who stands with his people, who intercedes with them and for them, and who helps them to pray. Begin with reflections on scriptural prayers and by learning about the pope's own personal prayer devotions, then explore how the pope stays connected to the Christian faithful through his prayerful heart for "the deepest concerns of our world." The various prayers of Pope Francis are placed in the context in which he offered them--whether in an encyclical or apostolic exhortation, at the Colosseum in Rome, after a homily, or on travels abroad. Use this book to pray with Pope Francis and to reflect on how you can "commune with God" in prayer, as Jesus did. This prayer companion book will be a blessing for adults in faith formation, students, parents, teachers, as well as pastors, religious men and women, spouses, and all Catholics who want to grow in faith alongside Pope Francis. Pick up this book today to grow in the gift of prayer with Pope Francis!
Learn about the history, blessing, and promise of Filipino Catholics in the United States! A Treasured Presence details how Christianity took root in the Philippines--beginning with the arrival of missionaries and priests who came alongside the Spanish expedition led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. It then explores the subsequent process of Filipino migration to the United States, and how their uniquely inculturated Catholicism has enriched the Church and the United States since. As you read, consider how Filipino Catholics add to the diverse richness of the Church in the United States and how their experiences, history, culture, and faith strengthen the Church. This short book will be a great read for families in the Filipino community; for pastors, teachers, and lay people who minster in parishes with a Filipino presence; and for all those interested in learning more about the Church's treasured presence of Filipino American Catholics.
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People is a comprehensive set of procedures originally established by the USCCB in June 2002 for addressing allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. The Charter also includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse. It was revised in 2005, 2011, and 2018. The Charter directs action in all the following matters: Creating a safe environment for children and young people; Healing and reconciliation of victims and survivors; Making prompt and effective response to allegations; Cooperating with civil authorities; Disciplining offenders; Providing for means of accountability for the future to ensure the problem continues to be effectively dealt with through the Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection and the National Review Board. This booklet also contains the Essential Norms for Diocesan/Eparchial Policies for Dealing with Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Priests or Deacons and A Statement of Episcopal Commitment by the bishops. This helpful printed version of the Charter is directed toward the whole Church in the United States, especially diocesan, parish, and school leaders whose responsibilities include protecting children and young people from sexual abuse, reporting allegations, and providing assistance to victims. It provides necessary guidance for members of the clergy, Safe Environment and Victim Assistance Coordinators, diocesan review board members, and Catholic educators. The Charter is also a helpful resource to inform lay Catholics as to the measures the Church in the United States has implemented, since 2002, to prevent abuse, hold offenders accountable, and offer healing to survivors.
Vietnamese American Catholics are an important part of the Church in the United States. Their story is one conditioned by war, refugee plight, and resettlement. It was their unwavering faith that helped them overcome these obstacles and which continues to bring a new energy to the Church. Many religious and priestly vocations are an example. There are needs and challenges that confront Vietnamese American Catholics as well, especially as the next generations are influenced by a more secular American culture. This book is a snapshot description about a community who rebuilt their faith life by sustaining family values, culture, and Catholic devotional practices.

This much anticipated pastoral response will guide the Catholic Church in the United States in addressing the pastoral needs of Asian and Pacific Island communities and provide a framework for dioceses and parishes to create pastoral plans specific to their circumstances. The Asian and Pacific Island population in the United States is the fastest growing minority population, according to research referenced in the document. Yet, this population "tends to go unrecognized in the wider US society, and there remains a need to bring more attention and support to the Asian and Pacific Island communities," the bishops say in the pastoral response. Encountering Christ in Harmony hopes to advance the Church's mission of evangelization to specific cultural groups; assist dioceses, parish leaders, other Catholic entities, and the faithful in pastoral outreach to Asian and Pacific Island Catholics; and provide resources and information about Asian and Pacific Island Catholic communities. The pastoral statement ends with a Prayer for Encountering Christ in Harmony. Parishes, dioceses, and others who minister to Asian and Pacific Island Catholic communities will find great support in this pastoral resource! Quote: "The goal of this response is to make Asian and Pacific Island Catholics feel at home, both in the Church and in the United States, while being able to preserve the richness of the spiritual and cultural backgrounds that they bring as contributing members of the Body of Christ. Our hope is that it will be utilized by Catholic dioceses, parishes, and small faith communities in the United States to develop their own plans of action and pastoral outreach to Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States." -Encountering Christ in Harmony

This work is a collection of Pope Francis's most significant words to the sick. It is a series of ... reflections, considerations, and prayers taken from his speeches, messages, homilies, and 'Angeluses' over a period of about four years, from his election to the See of Peter to June 2017."--
The strength of a vocation to build the kingdom of God's love is evident in the witness of consecrated men and women who dedicate their lives to Christ in the service of God and their brothers and sisters. This plainspoken conversation with Pope Francis took place in 2018 at the pope's residence. Filled with personal anecdotes from his own pastoral work, Pope Francis tells the story of the changes that have come to consecrated life in recent decades, challenges that need to be proactively addressed, and lessons from the past that can be applied to bring wisdom to governance and vitality to daily life in religious orders and seminaries.
The purpose of this national pastoral framework, which is an adaptable set of principles and strategies, is to assist dioceses, eparchies, parishes, and all those who serve the family, in responding to the call to proclaim the Gospel of the family, the joy of love, throughout the United States."
