This book examines the international, regional and domestic human rights frameworks that establish victim rights as a central force in law and policy in the twenty-first century. Accessing substantial source material that sets out a normative framework of victim rights, this work argues that despite degrees of convergence, victim rights are interpreted on the domestic level, in accordance with the localised interests of victims and individual states. The transition of the victim from peripheral to central stakeholder of justice is demonstrated across various adversarial, inquisitorial and hybrid systems in an international context. Examining the standing of victims globally, this book provides a comparative analysis of the role of the victim in the International Criminal Court, the ad hoc tribunals leading to the development of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, together with the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia, Special Panels of East Timor (Timor Leste), and the Internationalised Panels in Kosovo. The instruments of the European Parliament and Council of Europe, with the rulings of the European Court of Justice, and the European Court of Human Rights, interpreting the European Convention of Human Rights, are examined. These instruments are further contextualised on the local, domestic level of the inquisitorial systems of Germany and France, and mixed systems of Sweden, Austria and the Netherlands, together with common law systems including, England and Wales, Ireland, Scotland, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, South Africa, and the hybrid systems of Japan and Brazil. This book organises the authoritative instruments while advancing debate over the positioning of the victim in law and policy, as influenced by global trends in criminal justice, and will be of great interest to scholars of international law, criminal law, victimology and socio-legal studies.
This book is for those sons and daughters of the Lord Jesus Christ who have been weeping between the porch and the altar, crying out unto the Lord of glory. There is something stirring inside of you ready to explode. The fire inside of you is burning. You feel like it's time for you to move now! But it seems as if someone has pushed the pause button that's keeping you from your destiny. If you feel like everything that used to work for you has dried up, God has you in a strange place, a place where you are hungry and full at the same time, where all your spiritual senses are being exercised. This book was written to let you know the time of your coming out is at hand. Get ready! Keep pressing, keep praying, keep seeking. This is the price of becoming a Son of Glory. We are living in what the Bible calls the beginning of sorrows: "All these are the beginning of sorrows" (Matthew 24:8). This book is designed to encourage you to "stay planted by the rivers of water" (Psalm 1:3) for your season is at hand. I'm not talking about the rapture. I'm talking about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the last days, to glorify his Sons of Glory here on earth, "the manifestation of the Sons of God." Jesus will return to reveal his glory. It will manifest in the life of his sons and daughters. This book is written for those who understand they can't stay in their comfort zone, they have to go places they've never known, for there is a glory realm that has been hidden since the beginning of the church age that is ready to be revealed in these last days.
This book addresses the idea that victims remain contested and controversial participants of justice in the twenty-first century adversarial criminal trial. Victims are increasingly participating in all phases of the criminal trial, with new substantive and procedural rights, many of which may be enforced against the state or defendant. This movement to substantive rights has been contentious, and evidences a contested terrain between lawyers, defendants, policy-makers and even victims themselves. Bringing together substantial source materials from law and policy, this book sets out the rights and powers of the victim throughout the phases of the modern adversarial criminal trial. It examines the role of the victim in pre-trial processes, alternative pathways and restorative intervention, the jury trial, sentencing, appeal and parole. Preventative detention, victim registers, criminal injuries compensation and victim assistance, restitution and reparations, and extra-curial rights and declarations are examined to set out the rights of victims as they impact upon and constitute aspects of the modern criminal trial process. The adversarial criminal trial is also assessed in the context of the increased rights of victims in international law and procedure, and with reference to policy transfer between civil and common law jurisdictions. This timely and comprehensive book will be of great interest to scholars of criminology, criminal law and socio-legal studies.
The U.S. has indirectly intervened in international conflicts on a relatively large scale for decades. Yet little is known about the immediate usefulness or long-term effectiveness of contemporary proxy warfare. In cases when neither direct involvement nor total disengagement are viable, proxy warfare is often the best option, or, rather, the least bad option. Tyrone L. Groh describes the hazards and undesirable aspects of this strategy, as well as how to deploy it effectively. Proxy War explores the circumstances under which indirect warfare works best, how to evaluate it as a policy option, and the possible risks and rewards. Groh offers a fresh look at this strategy, using uncommon and understudied cases to test the concepts presented. These ten case studies investigate and illustrate the different types and uses of proxy war under varying conditions. What arises is a complete theoretical model of proxy warfare that can be applied to a wide range of situations. Proxy war is here to stay and will likely become more common as players on the international stage increasingly challenge U.S. dominance, making it more important than ever to understand how and when to deploy it.
In writing this publication, the word Truth is frequently used as a lead-in, to qualify much of the subject matter. When speaking Ex Cathedra-- (incontrovertible, indisputable, uncontestable, undeniable), Jesus consistently preempted his statements by qualifying them with the words, verily, verily, or I tell you the Truth. Our Lord thought it necessary to use a most significant piece of himself whenever he chose to: T each R elative U ndeniable T hings H onorably Truth is, the Holy Spirit downloaded this definition of Truth within me at the start of this publication. The meaning had a beautiful and spontaneous ring to it, and at the same time, each letter seemed to project a life of its own. The authors humbly suggest that our readers keep an open mind as you journey through our publication. Our intent is not to demand or command anything from you, but rather to stimulate your thought processes. Keeping in mind how distinctive and unique we are as human beings, we are sure to differ from person to person concerning religious choices, sexual choices, political viewpoints, etc. etc. Our hope is that we were able to add some value to your lives, and with the knowledge that we have accrued from our own experiences, possibly help someone, if even just a little bit.
Reverand Gabriel Powers is the Pastor of a small town church that is threatened by an approaching hurricane. He struggles with the decision to relocate the church or to leave it where it has always been. An unimagineable miracle happens as God answers his prayers in an unexpected way.
The go-ahead man must understand the purpose of a wife, and he must realize that marrying a woman does not make her a wife. The go-ahead man must also obey God and do as God have commanded him; this is why he needs a help meet. If the man is not doing what God has commanded him, he doesnt need a help meet: lets face it, men, we dont need help when we are not doing anything; he can do that all by himself. In a Christian marriage we must understand that God created the union of marriage and he knows what it takes to make it work. Every man has the ability to be a go-ahead man, all he needs is himself. What something is worth will be determined by what someone will give for it. Just like Christ gave himself for the church? The go-ahead man gives himself for the marriage. The man must understand that he is the head, not because he is smarter, stronger, or because he is a good provider: he is simply the head because thats what the Word of God said. The mans failure to function as the head is a lack of belief in Gods Word. As Christians we must realize who the real enemy is. One thing that the go-ahead man must get very skillful at, especially when relating to his wife, is recognizing when Satan comes into the conversation. Satans desire is to destroy the union of marriage. I believe the reason that destruction of the marriage is so high on Satans priority list is because Satan knows if he destroys the marriage then he can disrupt the church, and if the church is not in place, then he can win a community and finally a nation. But I thank God that Satans plan will not work because Jesus said in Mark 10:9, What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Generations of historians have maintained that in the last decade of the nineteenth century white-supremacist racial ideologies such as Anglo-Saxonism, social Darwinism, benevolent assimilation, and the concept of the "white man's burden" drove American i
God Im Returning Your Word It Dont Work shows us how the Word of God works through the examination of biblical teachings. Throughout the scriptures, God shows us how simple it is to understand his Word. This is accomplished in the Bible through examples such as a sword, living water, a plumb line, seed, fire, and rain. As believers, when we get a clear understanding of how these examples work, we will more clearly understand how the Word of God works. From that point we can use the Word of God in our lives to our advantage. This is crucial if we are going to have victory in our lives.
Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of sports law in Trinidad and Tobago deals with the regulation of sports activity by both public authorities and private sports organizations. The growing internationalization of sports inevitably increases the weight of global regulation, yet each country maintains its own distinct regime of sports law and its own national and local sports organizations. Sports law at a national or organizational level thus gains a growing relevance in comparative law. The book describes and discusses both state-created rules and autonomous self-regulation regarding the variety of economic, social, commercial, cultural, and political aspects of sports activities. Self- regulation manifests itself in the form of by-laws, and encompasses organizational provisions, disciplinary rules, and rules of play. However, the trend towards more professionalism in sports and the growing economic, social and cultural relevance of sports have prompted an increasing reliance on legal rules adopted by public authorities. This form of regulation appears in a variety of legal areas, including criminal law, labour law, commercial law, tax law, competition law, and tort law, and may vary following a particular type or sector of sport. It is in this dual and overlapping context that such much-publicized aspects as doping, sponsoring and media, and responsibility for injuries are legally measured. This monograph fills a gap in the legal literature by giving academics, practitioners, sports organizations, and policy makers access to sports law at this specific level. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Trinidad and Tobago will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative sports law.

Sports Law has quickly developed into an accepted area of academic study and practice in the legal profession globally. In Europe and North America, Sports Law has been very much a part of the legal landscape for about four decades, while in more recent times, it has blossomed in other geographic regions, including the Commonwealth Caribbean. This book recognizes the rapid evolution of Sports Law and seeks to embrace its relevance to the region. This book offers guidance, instruction and legal perspectives to students, athletes, those responsible for the administration of sport, the adjudication of sports-related disputes and the representation of athletes in the Caribbean. It addresses numerous important themes from a doctrinal, socio-legal and comparative perspective, including sports governance, sports contracts, intellectual property rights and doping in sport, among other thought-provoking issues which touch and concern sport in the Commonwealth Caribbean. As part of the well-established Routledge Commonwealth Caribbean Law Series, this book adds to the Caribbean-centric jurisprudence that has been a welcome development across the region. With this new book, the authors assimilate the applicable case law and legislation into one location in order to facilitate an easier consumption of the legal scholarship in this increasingly important area of law.
