Here Among the Hypnotized is altogether a series of juxtapositions of man and God, the nature of man and the nature of God, the state of man apart from God and the state of man at peace with God. These works run the gamut from the utter folly and hopelessness of man when he worships himself and rejects God to the utter peace and joy of man when he admits his shortcomings and accepts God as his hope and salvation in this world and beyond.
From Here to Home is a depiction of a journey of observation and transformation, from a simplistic strictly materialistic world view to a greater consciousness and larger perspective of reality. Everything that is, and everything that happens in our immediate material surroundings can be seen as a representation of something greater, having a deeper meaning beyond the limited scope of the merely observable. No thoughtful person can exist for long without gaining an increasing appreciation for the immeasurable power, intelligence, and purity of the One who created us and everything around us. This leads to an examination of how mankind and a world full of imperfection can ultimately be reconciled to such a powerful and intelligent force as God.
This book draws upon the knowledge and experience of modeling experts currently engaged in conducting assessments regarding the predictive strength of atmospheric models. The book covers all of the major important atmospheric areas, including large scale models for ozone depletion and global warming, regional scale models for urban smog (ozone and visibility impairment) and acid rain, as well as accompanying models of cloud processes and biofeedbacks. Atmospheric scientists and regulators should consider this book required reading.
When Elmer Stark's dream of becoming the greatest thoroughbred jockey of all time is shattered by the daughter of a rich and powerful rancher, Elmer employs Arnie Adams. a naïve but talented young lawyer to obtain Elmer his due. The flaws of the justice system are exposed while Adams fights the lies and notorious defense attorney, Katherine O'Shaughnessy. Elmer struggles to maintain his faith in Arnie and himself despite the odds against them. The outcome can only be described as stark justice for all the characters. A must read for those who want a glimpse of how the justice system really works! "Stark Justice is a fast paced, quick, and stimulating read by an author who knows the courtroom and understands how to bring interesting characters to life. Judge T.W. "Chip" Small brings together his deep wisdom, knowledge and understanding of real people, his observations and familiarity with the courtroom, and his awareness of the strategies employed by trial lawyers on both sides of a case in this entertaining story set in the small towns of Eastern Washington. The reader gets an actual and enjoyable education, an inside view of how the legal process truly works, and the thought process of plaintiffs and defense attorneys, litigants, and insurance companies throughout the proceedings. This is a book to be savored." -John R. "Jack" Connelly, Connelly Law Offices "Retired Judge Chip Small expertly weaves a compelling tale of hope, devastation and triumph, written by a man who saw it all as an attorney for a prestigious law firm and later as a widely respected magistrate. With a gift for flowing prose, Small's writing is reminiscent of the great Dick Francis, the former steeplechase jockey who authored a series of highly popular racing books across the pond. At the center of Stark Justice is a jockey, Elmer Stark, whose promising career is cut short by a freakish tragedy which results in a conclusive civil trial in which Small spares no details on the machinations of the civil justice system." -Vince Bruun, Emerald Downs Racetrack and Casino, Director of Media Relations
While environmentalists insist that lower rates of consumption of natural resources are essential for a sustainable future, many economists dismiss the notion that resource limits act to constrain modern, creative societies. The conflict between these views tinges political debate at all levels and hinders our ability to plan for the future. Supply-Side Sustainability offers a fresh approach to this dilemma by integrating ecological and social science approaches in an interdisciplinary treatment of sustainability. Written by two ecologists and an anthropologist, this book discusses organisms, landscapes, populations, communities, biomes, the biosphere, ecosystems and energy flows, as well as patterns of sustainability and collapse in human societies, from hunter-gatherer groups to empires to today's industrial world. These diverse topics are integrated within a new framework that translates the authors' advances in hierarchy and complexity theory into a form useful to professionals in science, government, and business. The result is a much-needed blueprint for a cost-effective management regime, one that makes problem-solving efforts themselves sustainable over time. The authors demonstrate that long-term, cost-effective resource management can be achieved by managing the contexts of productive systems, rather than by managing the commodities that natural systems produce.
Many groups of biologically important compounds experience cycles of furious research activity and near oblivion. The purines however seem not to be falling into such a pattern. Interest seems to be continuing almost exponentially with no sign of diminution. The result is a frighteningly extensive literature and an increas ing demand for international conferences and symposia. Unfortunately meetings such as these also spawn increasingly voluminous proceedings and it becomes more and more difficult for a newcomer to the area, or a non specialist, to obtain the general introductory survey he needs. This volume therefore is not intended to be comprehensive - far from it. We have tried to be selective in the material presented and the references quoted. They should provide a quick guide and access to key works in the literature which can be expanded by library or computerised searching. We hope that our efforts will widen the appreciation of purines as biologically important substances and will herald the day when more purine related drugs than the handful currently available are used for the selective treatment of disease. We are grateful to the many authors and publishers who have given permission to reproduce figures or quote unpublished results, and to Anne Stone for her patient typing of the manuscript.
