Contemporary behavior therapy encompasses diverse conceptual positions, clinical and applied problems, and intervention techniques. Behavior therapy has spread to several disciplines to provide substantive concepts and procedures as well as methodological tenets regarding how intervention techniques are to be evaluated. The proliferation of behavior therapy research has produced a plethora of texts. Typically texts review the history of particular treatments and detail contemporary advances. The historical underpinnings are often emphasized with the heavily labored view that in order to understand where one is going, it is important to understand where one has been. To be sure, historical roots of behavior therapy are important to document. However, a given history might have many different outcomes. Similarly, the current status of par ticular areas is frequently reviewed. Sometimes the number of reviews seems to approach or exceed the number of sound studies that there are to be reviewed. A review of current work is obviously essential but leaves open major questions of where the work will all lead. A valuable addition to ex isting reviews would be information that points in a prescriptive or explicit way to areas that are likely to be important in future work. The present book is unique in its approach and focus. Brief reviews of contemporary advances are provided in diverse areas of behavior therapy and serve as a point of departure to chart emerging trends and future direc tions.
This program is designed to provide students and technicians with a comprehensive overview of the heat pump system, its operation, and principles. Heat Pumps; Operation, Installation, and Service is designed to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of heat pump systems. The manual covers basic principles of operation, system components, air flow, defrost methods, balance point, auxiliary electric heat, electrical control wiring, refrigerant piping, installation, refrigerant charging, troubleshooting, dual fuel systems, and an introduction to geothermal systems. The intent of the book is to offer students and technicians information to build upon, in order to enhance their knowledge of the air conditioning and heating field, and more specifically, heat pumps. Before installing or servicing a heat pump system, the technician must have proper training and knowledge of air conditioning/refrigeration theory, principles and operation. With today's energy demands and costs soaring, there is a tremendous need for highly efficient equipment. These systems pose new demands for installers and service technicians. New heat pump systems with single, dual, and variable capacity are being sold which requires trained technicians with the ability to install, service, and maintain this equipment.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment is only as good as the installation. Studies show that the majority of HVACR equipment is not installed to manufacturer specifications, costing the consumer more money. * 68% of all air conditioning systems are improperly charged. * 70% of all systems have improper airflow. * 91% of systems remain untested for combustion safety and efficiency! The System Performance training manual is broken into four sections. Each section covers the techniques and procedures required for a technician to maximize the energy efficiency of HVAC systems. 1. Airflow: Covers the properties of air, airflow measuring tools, CFM calculations/requirements, blower performance, and sensible heat ratios. 2.Critical Charging: Reviews the three charging methods by weight, system superheat, and condenser subcooling. It gives examples of calculating the total charge based on line sizes and provides an easy method to check whether a system is operating to rated capacity. 3.Psychrometrics: Covers the parts of a psychrometric chart and calculating the thermodynamic properties of air. Also, this section demonstrates using wet and dry bulb temperatures to plot air conditions being heated or cooled which enables the technician to obtain a systems effect on sensible and latent building load. 4.Combustion Analysis: This section reviews the basic combustion process and the factors that affect heating efficiency. Proper methods for furnace setting of airflow, adjustment and testing fuel pressure, and flue gas venting.
With the majority of HVACR service calls being electrical in nature, it is important for technicians to have a solid understanding of electrical fundamentals allowing them to develop a systematic and methodical approach to troubleshooting. Electrical Theory and Application for HVACR provides students and practicing technicians with the information and knowledge necessary to accurately and safely diagnose and solve electrical system faults. Electrical Theory and Application for HVACR was written by HVACR instructors for HVACR instructors to simplify the instruction of electricity. The manual is full of color illustrations and includes worksheets that provide students and practicing technicians with the information and knowledge necessary to accurately and safely diagnose and solve electrical system faults. Main topics include: safety and hazard awareness, electrical fundamentals, motors, circuits and components, wiring diagrams, automated control systems, and troubleshooting.
Appropriate for graduate and undergraduate courses in Marketing Management. An international marketing classic, the tenth edition of Marketing Management highlights the most current trends and developments in global marketing from a Canadian perspective. The text prepares students for a decision-making role in organizations through the managerial orientation of its approach. All the concepts and tools for analyzing any market and/or environment are covered, as well as the principles for measuring and forecasting marketing, and techniques used for marketing segmentation, targeting, and positioning. Key themes developed in the tenth edition include Marketing for the 21st Century (looking to the future; trends in marketing and business; changes in the marketplace); E-commerce and the Internet (uses of technology; marketing on the web; using the web); Customer-driven marketing (focus on the customer: customer lifetime value, customer retention, delivering superior value, customer satisfaction); and Marketing around the globe (trends, problems in global marketing).
The story of introduced species in Texas is long (hogs were introduced by European settlers in the 1500s) and fraught with controversy. In Unnatural Texas? The Invasive Species Dilemma, Robin W. Doughty and Matt Warnock Turner introduce the “big hitters” of invasive species in the state. They profile the usual suspects—feral hogs, salt cedar, and fire ants—and also lesser known invasives, such as cats and sparrows. Blending natural and environmental history with geography, this book is a much-needed, balanced exploration of invasive species in Texas. The distinctions between native and invasive are not hard and fast, and perceptions of what is invasive have changed over the centuries. A striking example, free-ranging cats—domestic, stray, and feral—can wreak havoc on small mammal and bird populations. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution for invasives, and removal or complete eradication may not be possible or even desirable. The dilemma of what to do about invasive species also raises moral, social, economic, and cultural questions. This engaging introduction to the concept of invasive species in Texas will provide context for readers and will educate people on this important issue facing the state.
