This book is a thorough and thought provoking account of the first year of existence of the 60th Australian Infantry Battalion. Interspersed with Divisional, Brigade and other Battalion’s perspectives are the personal views of officers and other ranks relating to events and places. Included in the story is an investigation into a previously untold account of a group of soldiers called the “Needle Trench 10” who were killed by a single artillery shell on the 26th November 1916. For more than 100 years the identity of one of these soldiers, buried in the Guards’ Cemetery at Lesboeufs, France, has been lost to time. A document, filed in the archives of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Maidenhead, England, for over 100 years and only coming to light in 2021, has finally enabled this soldier’s possible identity to be established. Also revealed in the same document is the initial burial location of another soldier, wounded by the same artillery shell, and dying later that day whilst on his way to receive medical treatment. Woven throughout the book are the human stories of the battalion’s soldiers, including biographies of those killed on the 26th November, with many of the details provided by the descendants of these soldiers. The investigation details how a simple “bookkeeping” entry resulted in families, and descendants of ten of the eleven soldiers who died on the 26th November, being provided incorrect details concerning their deaths. This error has been perpetuated in official documents, publications, online resources, and inscribed in stone since this time.

Life After Death Investigations Myers believed he had virtually proved life after death by a) the link he thought established between hundreds of apparitions and living or dead human beings b) the messages that the outstanding mediums Mrs Piper and Mrs Thompson gave him from his first great love Annie and his intimate friend and co-worker Edmund Gurney which contained information the medium could not know and was delivered in a way highly characteristic of the personality concerned. 3. Automatic Writing Some researchers have claimed that he has returned after death and proved his continued existence through the automatic writings of a number of mediums in England, America, India. These writings continued for thirty years. 4. Romance & Suicide There is also love, tragedy and jealousy in Myers' life. His first great love Annie, a married woman, committed suicide and Myers' wife, a rather possessive person, tried to prevent any detail about this being made public after his death, even though the relationship was platonic. This inhibited the work of researchers who were trying to verify the 'post-mortem' communications from Myers, since, for many years, they could not check the facts. 5. Credibility Myers researches led him to forming a view about human personality and psychology which Aldous Huxley has said is much richer than Freud's.

The caves and dramatic limestone scenery of the Slovene karst have attracted visitors for centuries. The great stalagmites and roaring underground rivers were seen by relatively few people at that time but many of them did record their experiences in diaries as well as in print. These are used in the book, which is a result of a long-time collaboration between an English historian of speleology and a Slovene historian, to describe what they saw and what they thought about it, with contemporary illustrations by contemporary artists and photographers. Modern tourism derives from the tours led by Thomas Cook who first came to Postojnska jama in 1868. Music in that cave has a very long history for dancing or concerts. This is only one example of the relation between caves and people as a constant theme in this book. Altogether the 39 chapters describe, for example, the problems facing all travellers in pre-railway days and point out that one of the very first women to explore difficult caves did so at Škocjan. Also touched upon is Darwin’s interest in Slovene cave animals and a lot more. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Kraške jame, pa tudi posebna in zanimiva slovenska pokrajina – kras – že stoletja privlačijo obiskovalce. A vendar je bilo v preteklih stoletjih le peščici dano občudovati najrazličnejše kraške formacije in prisluhniti bučečim podzemeljskim rekam. Kar nekaj obiskovalcev je izkušnje in opažanja zapisalo v dnevnike in jih v tiskani obliki celo objavilo. V knjigi, ki je plod dolgoletnega angleško-slovenskega sodelovanja (svetovno znanega preučevalca zgodovine speleologije in slovenske zgodovinarke), so povzeti njihova opažanja in vtisi, dopolnjeni z ilustracijami oziroma s fotografijami iz tistega časa. Dobo modernega turizma je začel Thomas Cook, ki je prve organizirane skupine v Postojnsko jamo pripeljal leta 1868. V tej jami že vrsto let prirejajo glasbene oziroma plesne prireditve. To je le en vidik odnosa med človekom in jamo, ki ga obravnava knjiga. V 39 poglavjih spoznamo na primer težave, s katerimi so se spoprijemali obiskovalci jam pred uvedbo železnice, izvemo, da je ena izmed pionirk – raziskovalk jam – raziskovala prav Škocjanske jame, da so živali, ki jih najdemo v slovenskih jamah, pritegnile pozornost samega Darwina in še veliko več.

Apart from cases of epididymal agenesis or physical blockage, however, it is not yet known to what extent mal functions of the epididymis contribute to "unexplained" male infer tility, but its importance as a target for antifertility agents in the male is now widely appreciated. This monograph evolved from two lectures on epididymal func tion given at the National Research Institute for Family Planning, Beijing and the Sichuan Provincial Family Planning Research Insti tute, Chengdu, China in 1983. In order to stress for this audience the central importance of the epididymis in fertilisation, and so highlight its potential for attack by antifertility agents, the talks attempted to put the epididymis in reproductive perspective by stressing the func tional development of the sperm cells during their sojourn in the epididymis, rather than merely listing the changes observed in them.

Avtor se je pri delu naslanjal na originalne vire (jamske načrte, vodnike, zapiske popotnikov, neobjavljene arhivske vire in upodobitve): več kot polovica je nastalih pred letom 1900.
