Jewish pianist/composer Irving Fields formed one of the first piano-bass-drum trios in jazz, going on to compose song performed by Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Xavier Cugat, Guy Lombardo, Dinah Shore, Sarah Vaughan and others. In 1959 made history by fusing Latin and jazz music on his album "Bagels And Bongos", followed by a series of albums fusing jazz with world rhythms and his legacy was set. Irving died in 2016 at age 101. In his 90's his wrote this autobiography about his life with the help of Huffington Post columnist and former music store owner Tony Sachs. It was edited by music writer Aaron Joy with an introduction by cocktail pianist Albert Aprigliano.

Luke Calahan, his blood brother Anthony, and Luke's neighbor John O' Riley use the Goodnight-Loving trail to herd their combined stock to the railhead in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The story begins with Luke being chased by a relentless posse from Mule Shoe. Luke had gotten into an altercation with one of the players after, discovering that person was cheating. Luke shot the card cheat in a fair fight, but soon discovered fair play had no hand in his destiny. Luke was chased out of town by the posse, all because the man Luke shot was the corrupt sheriffs son. After four days of chase, Luke finds himself in a set of canyons where he is able to make his escape with the aid of a stranger shooting from a high ridge. Part of the posse gives up the chase and takes word back to the townspeople about what really happened in the card game. Sheriff Blackie, and his corrupt deputies vow to not stop chasing Luke until they catch him. After losing the posse Luke finds himself at a burned down cabin near the town of Junction, Colorado. No one seemed to be at the cabin when Luke stopped for the night. Or, that was what he thought, until he went to drink from the well. Trapped inside the well was a small girl. Luke rescues the little white haired child but soon discovers that she is an orphan, and unable to speak. Luke takes the small child into the town of Junction where he discovers that there is only a few people left, none of them know the child, or are able to take care of her so Luke has to take her with him. He is given a wagon, and sets out for his home in Comanche, Texas with the girl. Along the way, Luke decides to go to the grave spot of his partner John O' Riley, that died in the cattle drive, andbring his body back to Texas. Unbeknownst to Luke, the posse is still after him. But Luke's blood brother Anthony is trying his best to slow the posse down. Anthony's Indian name is 'He who walks in the shadows', and the name fits him quite well because of the fact that very few of his victims even see him before they meet their demise. Anthony is on Luke's trail also, always just a step ahead of Blackie and his men. While Luke is on his own journey to dig up John O' Riley, some other fellow Texans are making the journey to do the same thing. After O' Riley died in a night time stampede, Johns best friend Henry decided to quit the drive and go back to Texas so he could tell Mary about her fathers death. Henry gathered up two of his closest friends and took off on their own adventure to retrieve the body of John O' Riley. Henry and his friends get into a battle with renegade Comanche Indians, making a name for themselves because of the outcome of the unbalanced battle. The first half of the story culminates on the Canadian River, where John O' Riley was buried. Luke shows up with the little girl, along with Anthony, the Texas men, accompanied by a small cavalry unit, and Blackie, who had enlisted the help of a sheriff and his deputies from Pueblo. The Pueblo law men knew of Blackies corrupt means and went along with him to try and stop what the vengeful sheriff had planned. In the middle of the confrontation on the Canadian River, the group of men found themselves in a battle. Not with themselves, but with a Comanche war party, set out for revenge themselves. After the battle is over Luke takes the little girl, Phoebe, back home to Texas, and his sweetheart Mary O' Riley, who is now theowner of the largest ranch in Texas. Luke and Mary wed, and after combining the O' Riley Ranch with the Calahan Ranch, they decide to name their spread, The O.C. Ranch. One of Blackie's men, that was thought to be dead, vows revenge on those responsible for leaving him for the buzzards, and his brothers death. This is where the second half of the story begins, with Joe Barnett starting his path of destruction. Joe enlists the help of the Mexican that pulled him from the ravine, tracking the first man, responsible for his brothers death, and kills him

Fields, Capitals, Habitus provides an insightful analysis of the relations between culture and society in contemporary Australia. Presenting the findings of a detailed national survey of Australian cultural tastes and practices, it demonstrates the pivotal significance of the role culture plays at the intersections of a range of social divisions and inequalities: between classes, age cohorts, ethnicities, genders, city and country, and the relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The book looks first at how social divisions inform the ways in which Australians from different social backgrounds and positions engage with the genres, institutions and particular works of culture and cultural figures across six cultural fields: the visual arts, literature, music, heritage, television and sport. It then examines how Australians’ cultural preferences across these fields interact within the Australian ‘space of lifestyles’. The close attention paid to class here includes an engagement with role of ‘middlebrow’ cultures in Australia and the role played by new forms of Indigenous cultural capital in the emergence of an Indigenous middle class. The rich survey data is complemented throughout by in-depth qualitative data provided by interviews with survey participants. Over the past decade biophotonics has appeared as a new department within the academic structure across the globe. With experimental work going back for more than a century, application of the scientific method has shown the importance of biophotonics within biological and medical practice. At the same time, a new mathematical description of physics and biophysics has emerged. Self-Field Theory (SFT) describes the role of photon as a binding agent between an electron and a proton within atomic structures. SFT is being rapidly accepted by the physics community as a distinct physical theory. This is now an alternative view, in addition to classical electromagnetics and the quantum theories, that forms the basis of a chemical bond. Atomic chemistry underpins biochemistry, the pharmaceutical approach to medical therapy, and has been a staple of biological and medical knowledge over the 20th century. The biophoton within SFT provides another layer of structural organization that sits underneath atomic chemistry. This book is the first to describe SFTs role within biophotonics and as such provides a theory of biophotonics capable of describing a wide range of experimental biophotonic phenomena. Inside the Photon: A Journey towards Health describes the newly discovered layer of biophotonics underlying all atomic chemistry and biochemistry. As with the variety of snowflakes, the range in biological species within flora for instance is dependent on this biophotonic layer of interaction within atomic and biomolecular structures. Stalin's American Spy tells the remarkable story of Noel Field, a Soviet agent in the US State Department in the mid-1930s. In 2011, Böscke et al. reported the unexpected discovery of ferroelectric properties in hafnia based thin films, which has since initiated many further studies and revitalized research on the topic of ferroelectric memories. In spite of many efforts, the unveiling of the fundamentals behind this surprising discovery has proven rather challenging. In this work, the originally claimed Pca21 phase is experimentally proven to be the root of the ferroelectric properties and the nature of this ferroelectricity is classified in the frame of existing concepts of ferroelectric materials. Parameters to stabilize this polar phase are examined from a theoretical and fabrication point of view. With these very basic questions addressed, the application relevant electric field cycling behavior is studied. The results of first-order reversal curves, impedance spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy and piezoresponse force microscopy significantly advance the understanding of structural mechanisms underlying wake-up, fatigue and the novel phenomenon of split-up/merging of transient current peaks. The impact of field cycling behavior on applications like ferroelectric memories is highlighted and routes to optimize it are derived. These findings help to pave the road for a successful commercialization of hafnia based ferroelectrics.

Behaviour is the primary interface between these effective survival machines and their environment: behavioural plasticity is one of the keys to their success. The study of animal behaviour has undergone revolutionary changes in the past decade under the dual impact of behavioural ecology and sociobiology.
