This is my story, no fabrications, no bullshit, just a small glimpse into the life of a young woman. There is a lot to be said about going through the volatile years of ages 18-26. How do we get through them? How do we approach our decisions? How can we tell the difference between a man with good intentions and a man with a mission to get laid? You honestly cant. There are so many things that young women must learn on their own. No matter how much a father or mother try to protect their children from the world, somehow the world happens anyway. I Dated This Guy Once is intended to not only entertain you, but also to somehow educate you through my experiences. We are all made up of our past experiences, both good and bad. It is these experiences that form the fabric of the future. With that said, maybe people will start looking at life, relationships and marriage differently. Maybe perspective is all we need to change this society. I have no idea. If nothing else, you will undoubtedly be entertained. Red wine recommended.
Ten years ago, the hegemonic idea was that language was a kind of independent module within the mind, a sort of "print-out" of whatever cognitive activity was taking place, but without any influence whatsoever in that activity. While this view is still held, evidence amassed in the last 10 years suggests another view of their inter-relationships, even though exactly which one is not clear yet, in part because of the lack of a unified view, and in part because of the inertia of the previous position, in part because all this evidence must be considered together. An increasing number of researchers are paying attention to the issues involved as the human language specificity may provide a clue to understand what makes humans "smart," to account for the singularities of human cognition. This book provides a comprehensive review of the multiple developments that have taken place in the last 10 years on the question of the relationships between language and thought and integrates them into a coherent framework. It will be relevant for anyone working in the sciences of languages. - Synthesizes recent research - Provides an integrated view of cognitive architecture - Explains the relationships between language and thought
Parents want to work with their children’s teachers to help them succeed in school. What Brain Research Says about Student Learning provides parents and teachers the most recent findings in brain research and learning theory in a very approachable way. The reader will see how the child’s brain develops, learns, remembers, and creates new meaning and understanding. User-friendly discussions of learning and teaching theories will show strategies both parents and teachers can use to capitalize on this new understanding about the child’s developing brain. Topics include: learning environment, developmental stages, lesson planning, teaching strategies, assignments, and assessments. The book concludes with a variety of actual samples from these topic areas.
Virtually anyone who has attended college can attest to poor teaching approaches by very bright professors. Professors simply are not trained or taught how to best teach their content. They are not aware of learning theories, brain research, pedagogy and andragogy. They teach the way they were taught—their mimetic isomorphism. Not only will this book share insights from all these areas, but it will also help professors prepare syllabi, create curriculum, prepare lesson plans, create assignments, and develop assessments with these concepts in mind. Further, we will embed differentiation, culturally relevant strategies, and the use of technology to enhance learning.
Human Measurement Techniques in Speech and Language Pathology gives an overview of elicitation methods in the assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders and explains approaches to the qualification of the obtained data in terms of agreement and reliability. Despite technological advances in the assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders, the role of human judgements is as important as ever. Written to be accessible to students, researchers and practitioners alike, the book not only provides an overview of elicitation procedures of human judgement such as visual analog scaling, Likert scaling etc. but also presents methodological and statistical approaches to quality assessment of judgements. The book introduces statistical procedures for processing scores obtained in paired comparisons and in the context of signal detection theory, and introduces software relevant for the calculation of a large number of coefficients of reliability and agreement. Featuring a wealth of reader-friendly pedagogy throughout, including instructions for using SPSS and R software, clarified by many illustrations and tables, example reports, and exercise questions to test the readers understanding, it is an ideal companion for advanced students and researchers in the field of speech pathology.
