There’s something about underdogs that makes us cheer them on. And stories about outsiders always make a good movie script or book. Maybe it’s because we know how it feels to be in last place or left out. We may never win a trophy or become a hero, but as Matthew shows us, God uses people like Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Uriah’s wife—and of course Mary—in unexpected ways. This five-session study looks at the lives of these five women and will help you see how even underdogs and outsiders can play a pivotal role in God’s purposes. You’ll uncover new dimensions of familiar stories and be reminded to look for God in unanticipated places during this Advent season. Designed to be used by individuals and small groups. In addition to the main content, each chapter offers questions for reflection and discussion, a brief prayer, and a focus for the week. The weekly focus emerges from the chapter content and encourages the readers to engage a spiritual practice or do something specific that will help them grow in faith. "Tom Fuerst is one of the most effective communicators I know. He writes as he preaches, with clarity and compassion. Rarely is one able to communicate solid scholarship with effective 'popular' writing. Tom does that exceptionally well. This book is a valuable asset for pastor and lay person alike, to make Advent rich in understanding and meaning." - Maxie Dunnam, author and chancellor of Asbury Theological Seminary; pastor emeritus Christ United Methodist Church - Memphis, TN; vice-chairperson World Evangelism of the World Methodist Council. "Tom Fuerst is one of the most talented pastors and writers with which I have had the privilege of working. His new book is not only well written but an important windows into the Advent journey." - Dr. Shane Stanford, Senior Pastor, Christ United Methodist Church - Memphis.

And once trapped in the swamp, the boys discover the creature they seek isn’t the monster they thought it was... It’s something much worse. When hope is lost, faith will find the way back.

Now with new Content by Tom Kratman HE RAISED AN ARMY AGAINST THOSE WHO TOOK EVERYTHING FROM HIM They should have picked their enemies more carefully. Five centuries from now, on a remarkably Earthlike planet that is mankind's sole colony in space, religious fanatics called the "Salafi Ikhwan" have murdered the uncle of former colonel Patrick Hennessey. That was their first mistake, because uncle was rich and Hennessey was rather a good colonel. But they also murdered Hennessey's wife, Linda, and their three small children, and that was their worst mistake for she was the only restraint Hennessey had ever accepted. From the pile of rubble and the pillar of fire that mark the last resting place of Linda Hennessey and her children arises a new warrior¾Carrera, scourge of the Salafis. He will forge an army of ruthless fanatics from the decrepit remains of failed state's military. He will wage war across half a world. He will find those who killed his family. He will destroy them, and those who support them, utterly, completely, without restraint or remorse. Only when he is finished will there be peace: the peace of an empty wind as it blows across a desert strewn with the bones of Carrera's enemies. War is brutal. Colonel Wes Stauer gets it. He ought to. He was once one of war's most brutal practitioners¾not to mention one of its most effective and least bloody. Brutal yes; stupid no. Now, not only must Stauer command his crack outfit of former comrades and pull off yet another miracle mission, he must also harness and direct the brute within himself¾a beast he will need in order to destroy an intelligent enemy who is as implacable as Stauer himself. Okay, almost as implacable. There will be war. And there will be warriors like Wes Stauer who have the know-how and, once set in motion, the unstoppable professional drive, to see the bad guys to their graves and destroy every last earthly piece of their nasty legacies. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).
A masterful political thriller from the author of Shining City thrusts veteran Washington fixers Peter Rena and Randi Brooks into a dark world of cyberattacks, a new era of foreign espionage, and a risky, classified plan to save the world from environmental disaster Billionaire entrepreneur David Traynor has big dreams for fixing a broken government in his first term as president of the United States. In the months before his inauguration, he’s developed daring and, in some cases, secret strategies to solve the climate crisis, force Congress to work again, and rebuild America’s economy—and that’s just the beginning. Everyone in the capital is scrambling to adapt to the new disruptor in chief’s bold agenda, though many, both at home and abroad, also want to see Traynor and his steely vice president, Wendy Upton, fail. Unsure of whom he can trust, Traynor intends to turn to an unusual group of people to advise him, including the savvy and sometimes ruthless DC fixers Peter Rena and Randi Brooks. Though he is at the height of his career, Rena finds his world in chaos. His personal life is a mess; he wonders if his work—saving powerful people from their mistakes—has become too cynical. When malicious, untraceable cyberattacks related to his past start seeping from the dark corners of the internet, Rena’s doubts overwhelm him. Then an unpredictable tragedy throws the country into crisis, and he must come out of his stupor. If Rena wants to help the new president salvage American politics, he will first have to reckon with his own demons and come to grips with a world far different from the one he once believed in. With the government and the country polarized and on the cusp of enormous change, Tom Rosenstiel’s The Days to Come is a clever, gripping thriller and a cogent meditation on how to heal a divided country.

What is hope, and what do you mean when you say you have hope? Do you have a confident expectation when you hope for something, or has hope become just a new way to express doubt and unbelief in what could be possible? Most of the time in our societyand sometimes even in the churchwe hear the word hope used in a weak, doubtful way. So what must we do to have hope become born again in our vocabularies? In There Is Hope, author and minister Tom Battle offers a way to restore hopes true meaning, using a biblical perspective to explain how hope is not merely a weaker form of faith. Instead, believers can learn how hope is the powerful partner of faith. Hope can be the anchor of our souls, and as we wait on the Lord, it is our hope that unlocks the key to the futureresurrection and eternity with Christ. Hope is the spiritual compass that points the believer in the right direction. It is time for the word hope to be born again in the vocabulary of each and every believer. Be encouraged! There is hope for the hopeless, and when a weakened hope based on circumstances and the world fades away, real Bible-based hope will still be there to show you the way to truth and salvation.

In a single day, everything can change . . . The first in a stunning trilogy of horror, survival, and transformation. There are days when the wind is so biting one can barely curse the cold through chattering teeth. There are days when the sun bakes down and complaints can only roll slowly off weary tongues. There are days filled with superstition; days marked in history; days of remembered significance. This was not one of those days. There was nothing remarkable about it. Even the weather was too average to elicit comment. It was any day. It was every day. And, in many ways, it was the last day. When Mike Allard, a high school history teacher in rural Tennessee, arrived at work, there were some murmurs of illness; students and teachers absent with signs of flu. Even for a newly employed teacher like Mike, a half empty class was a welcome gift. By that night, though, the murmurs grew more panicked. Every television station broadcast wall-to-wall coverage of the sudden outbreak. Before midnight, the word “pandemic” had become insufficient. The Tilian Virus had swept the globe with incomprehensible speed. The government urged patience—explaining that while the symptoms were severe, recovery seemed likely. But then the victims changed. Mothers and fathers, sons and daughters lost what made them human and reverted back to the predatory instincts at the core of existence...In this chilling novel spanning seven years, Mike Allard will lead a small band of people to an unknown end, as he struggles with the futility of survival in a world of withered decay.
We'll Always Be Pals" are the last words my father said to me before he died. The youngest of his six children, he taught me everything there is to know about how to be a man in this world. He should know, after the life he lived. Born in 1920, Gene McManus witnessed some of the most historic events in our country's history. A product of the Great Depression, he was a football star, a boxer, and a B-24 Liberator pilot and POW during World War II. My story is a small one. Out of football for two full seasons after a glorified college career, I had left my football dreams behind me until I got a call out of the clear blue sky. The man who taught me how to play the game was all the inspiration I ever needed to realize a life long held dream. "We'll Always Be Pals" is ultimately the story of a father and son who were fifty years apart in age yet ended up best of friends. Tom McManus, grew up playing football. He started in the 4th grade at St. Mary's of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, a Catholic grammar school located outside of Chicago. He went on to Wheeling HS, where he was an All-Conference and an All-State linebacker. He accepted a football scholarship to Boston College and received his bachelor's degree in Marketing. He was named a third team All-American his senior year along with being a two time First Team All Big East linebacker under the tutelage of Tom Coughlin. He failed in his first two attempts to make it into the NFL and spent two football seasons out of the game, tending bar in Chicago. In 1995, he got a lucky break and became a member of the inaugural Jacksonville Jaguar Franchise of the NFL. He played an instrumental role in the Jaguars miraculous 1996 season, the Cinderella story of the NFL that year, as he started 14 games at middle linebacker including the 1997 AFC Championship Game and proved to the NFL that he did, in fact, belong. Tom is the owner and host of a sports talk radio show in Jacksonville, Florida called, "The Rumble with Tom McManus" on 1010 XL. Tom is involved in many charitable causes, most notably, the Jay Fund Foundation, established by Tom Coughlin, and the C.H.I.L.D. Cancer Fund. Tom resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, a beach residence outside of Jacksonville, with his wife, Kristina, and their three daughters, Avery, Kelsey, and Harley.
Slavery is a part of Islam . . . Slavery is part of jihad, and jihad will remain as long there is Islam." ¾Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, author of the religious textbook At-Tawhid ("Monotheism") and senior Saudi cleric. Demography is destiny. In the 22nd century European deathbed demographics have turned the continent over to the more fertile Moslems. Atheism in Europe has been exterminated. Homosexuals are hanged, stoned or crucified. Such Christians as remain are relegated to dhimmitude, a form of second class citizenship. They are denied arms, denied civil rights, denied a voice, and specially taxed via the Koranic yizya. Their sons are taken as conscripted soldiers while their daughters are subject to the depredations of the continent's new masters. In that world, Petra, a German girl sold into prostitution as a slave at the age of nine to pay her family's yizya, dreams of escape. Unlike most girls of the day, Petra can read. And in her only real possession, her grandmother's diary, a diary detailing the fall of European civilization, Petra has learned of a magic place across the sea: America. But it will take more than magic to free Petra and Europe from their bonds; it will take guns, superior technology, and a reborn spirit of freedom. The Crabapple Tree is about bravery, courage and standing up in the face of seemingly insurmountable opposition, criticism, judgment, and invalidation of personal identity. It is about crushed hope that is restored and dreams that were snuffed out being rekindled. It is about the gender-neutral artist who was told over and over again, "You will never amount to anything if you follow your creative heart." It is about the athletic girl who was told, "You aren't pretty enough," or the sensitive boy who was told, "Real men don't cry." It is about the non-traditional family with two moms or two dads who are told, "Your union is dishonorable, and you are a threat to my religious liberty." And it is about me, a gay boy who grew up in a whirlwind of pious legalism, convinced that something was terribly wrong with me. It is a story of hope deferred and a renewed belief in the fulfillment of longing. It is a story that elevates the marginalized and calls forth the ostracized. It is a story about the Greatest Voice speaking into the hopeless heart saying, "I see you. I made you. I love you. I want you. Never forget that love is love is love.
In, Be Like Christ: Exploring the Truth of Life in Christ, Tom Witherill takes an in depth look at one of the most important questions in the life of a follower of Jesus Christ ... can we become like Jesus here and now in our earthly lives? To answer this ultimate question, Tom will unfold some of the biggest controversies and stumbling blocks to living this new life in Christ, and answer if it is even possible to be like Christ today, or do we have to wait until we are in heaven to attain this goal? Some of the issues to be looked at are: What does it even mean to "Be Like Christ"? Biblical support for and against being like Jesus now. Understanding Sin, the Flesh, and Sinful Nature. Are we "just sinners"? Are we "only human"? Understanding Paul's "struggle" in Romans 7. What does it mean to be created in the "Image of God"? What is "Free Will"? Is sin an "option" for Christians? What does it mean to be a Disciple? What are Jesus' expectations for us as His followers? Do we have to be obedient to abide in God? How do we live the Christian life now? With a "down to earth" writing style, and a very practical view of what an amazing life in Christ should look like, Tom will examine life in the kingdom of God, explore the ideas and questions above and much more, using the Bible, reason, logic, and truth. Simply, how can we become powerful followers of Christ now, using all the gifts God has given us, to become the children of God He's intended us to be, and to serve God on this earth in perhaps the greatest mission field in all of creation? All this with the greatest joy a life with God has to offer. And most important of all, to learn to love God with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind, and with all our strength (Mark 12:30)! Be ready to challenge and to be challenged. Be ready to see how God's word is to be used to give us great strength as His followers and to become everything we should be as His disciples, now! Tom Witherill holds an MA in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. He has a passion for truth and living life in the reality of God, and for believers to live in the fullness, strength, and reality of what a life with Christ should be. His heart is also for unbelievers and especially the atheist community to which he once belonged. Of particular interest to him are issues involving proofs/evidences for the existence of God and the consistency of belief in Christianity versus Atheism.
The decade of the 1980s has been called the Decade of Decadence. Decadence is defined as "the act or process of falling into an inferior condition or state; deterioration; decay" or my favorite, "unrestrained or excessive self-indulgence." For a decade that brought us Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, leg-warmers and New Wave, was it really a state of deterioration?! For one kid growing up in the Central Valley of California, it was a time of self-discovery . . . a transformation from a kid, to a teenager, to a young adult . . . his growing up years. At times utterly hilarious, at times poignant and powerful, Tom relives his teenage years in this true-to-the-last-word memoir. Where were you when John Lennon died? When the Space Shuttle blew up? When Lawrence Taylor ended Joe Theisman's career on live TV? When the Loma Prieta earthquake rocked Game 3 of the 1989 World Series? Tom will tell you where he was and what it meant to him. You'll also hear about first kisses, first loves, a joke about your Uranus, avoiding fistfights, the joys of minimum-wage jobs, college roommates, and WHOLE LOT MORE. If you're one of the 70 million Americans who can claim at least one teen year in the decade, you can relate to the era . . . if your kids can't understand your fondness for your Breakfast Club and Princess Bride DVDs, this book may teach them a thing or two about YOUR growing up years.

One of the final projects of the legendary Stan Lee and beautifully illustrated by Spider-man veteran Andie Tong, BACKCHANNEL centers on Tom Tanner and his father, Martin. On the surface, Tom Tanner is having an average high school life - struggling to stay on the lacrosse team, hiding his affections for his friend Sally, and trying to keep his head down and grades up. What his father, an LA police detective, and friends don’t know is that Tom is an engineering prodigy and is being recruited by BACKCHANNEL, a decentralized hactivist group causing havoc at prisons across the U.S. While developing a highly sophisticated AI algorithm, a power awakens within Tom that grants him the ability to mentally hack into any device (technopathy). While initially using this newfound power for personal gain and petty revenge, he learns of a dark secret from his father’s past that will change him forever. In need of a moment of escapism, Tom returns to his favorite digital comics. This time though, the comic is disturbingly on point with what Tom has been experiencing. As he continues to read, Tom realizes that there are encrypted messages in the comic from an unknown ally who clearly knows everything Tom has been up to. When he discovers that the hacktivist group BACKCHANNEL has been tracking him and is aware of his new abilities and reaching out to him for help, Tom is set on a very dangerous path.

All the belligerents stagger on their feet. Starvation is an ever present reality, while disease waits in the wings. In Russia, no longer a belligerent but, instead, rapidly descending into civil war and chaos, a lone family—Father, Mother, four beautiful young girls, and a brave but sickly boy—await their own fate, shivering and hungry in the dark, hoping and praying for salvation. Their relatives in England have turned their backs. The guards set over them do little but torment them. They look Heavenward, but God doesn't answer. They know they're a threat to the new regime, a threat that will, in time, be eliminated. But even the strongest fabric has flaws. An escaped prisoner of war, caught, injured, and punished, but still highly capable, might be one. An airship, returned and at loose ends after a failed mission to Africa might be another. A German general, taking a wrong turn on his nightly walk and suddenly coming face to face with the reality of the monster rising in the east, would be a third. Follow, then, as the general gives the orders, the prisoner of war raises the men from among his fellows, and the airship launches itself forward, to contest fate, to tear the fabric of time, and to effect The Romanov Rescue. Kids get crazy messages these days. Some from television. Some from video games. Some from magazines. Some from friends. Yes, even some from teachers. And the craziest on the list, some from parents. We live in a time when people will believe almost anything. We live in a time when parents don't know what to teach their kids. Some parents don't want to teach their kids. And in each of these cases the kids get the short end of the stick. Too many people expect someone else to fix today's problems. Sometimes that happens. Sometimes we like the solution. Sometimes we don't. Making sure that our children know the truth is not a sometimes affair. What is truth? For some that is a tough question. It shouldn't be. Among all the horse hockey slung around these days masquerading as truth, there is a truth that stands above the fray and must be told. God loves you. Our children should hear this at least once a day. It should be on signs in their rooms. It should be in notes in their backpacks. It should be a thought that never escapes them during the day. It should be a topic of daily conversation. It is seldom any of those. That needs to change. Read this book to your children until they are old enough to read it for themselves. They need to know that the creator of all matter says that they matter and he loves them. God loves you.
I have written this book to help Christians and interested persons understand what the Scriptures teach about the "Time of the End." Christ Jesus gave us The Book Of Revelation and all of Scripture, so that we could understand what He wanted us to know about the Time of the End. He said about the Book of Revelation: 'Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.' (Revelation 1:3)
