New York Times bestselling author and conservative U.S. Senator Tom Cotton exposes the progressive left’s decades-long plot to sabotage American power, culminating in a behind-the-scenes look at the dangerous failures of Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden—and explains what we must do to recover America’s strength. If it seems to you that Barack Obama and Joe Biden have weakened America and emboldened our enemies, you’re not alone. But Senator Cotton explains that their failures aren’t just incompetence or bad luck—it’s decline by design. Only the Strong reveals the untold inside story of how progressive ideologues and Democratic politicians abandoned the American tradition of strength, pride, and honor. From the beginning, early progressives like Woodrow Wilson repudiated our Founding in favor of globalist fantasies abroad and big government at home. By Vietnam, leftists had begun to blame America first for the world’s problems—just as Barack Obama did for eight years as he apologized and sought to atone for America’s supposed sins. Along the way, Democrats have sold out America’s sovereignty and hollowed out our military to restrain American power. Even when Democrats have acted tough, it usually ends in disaster, from John Kennedy’s debacle at the Bay of Pigs to Bill Clinton’s fiasco in Mogadishu to Joe Biden’s humiliating retreat from Afghanistan. While offering a timely warning of the dangers ahead and new stories from Senator Cotton’s service in the Senate and the Army, Only the Strong also provides a formidable and urgent roadmap to restore American strength before it’s too late. Because only the strong can survive in a dangerous world and only the strong can preserve their freedom.
This book discusses how counselling, a profession known for diverse and innovative practices, has recently been influenced by scientific, marketplace, and administrative developments corresponding with a medicalized focus on psychiatric diagnoses and related evidence-based treatments. Tensions associated with this medicalized focus refer to competing logics and accountabilities regarding how to understand and address concerns brought to counselling. Tom Strong reviews such tensions as they relate to counsellors’ approaches to practice experienced as incompatible with a medicalized approach. The role of media and technology, therapy culture, and counsellor education, are examined with respect to medicalizing tensions that professionals and clients of counselling increasingly face. The book will interest readers who share concerns regarding the potential for a mental health monoculture grounded in the diagnose and treatment logic of medicalized counselling.
What kinds of embodied and relational learning can come from developing a responsive relationship with a horse? What insights might such ways of learning offer counselors and educators? In this book, the authors explore how women challenged by disordered eating develop transformative relational and embodied experiences through Equine-Facilitated Counseling (EFC). Embodiment refers to how we engage with others and the world in often habitual and taken for granted ways that shape who we are and the relationships we have. These habitual ways of being provide us with a sense of stability, but they can sometimes become constraining and problematic (as in the case of eating disorders). Our corporeal engagement with the world structures such habits, but it can also afford us opportunities to experiment, modify, and challenge problematic patterns, and in some instances, create new and preferred ones. The horses that participate in EFC present a vastly different sort of other who can help clients interrupt their sedimented ways of being and foster moments of responsivity that hold the power to become transformative. This theoretical context presents a different way of thinking about and practicing counseling - one that adds to a growing language of embodiment across a variety of disciplines. Chapters set forth a theoretical context for understanding the following: relationally embodied processes of stability and change, EFC, client stories from our research associated with riding horses in EFC, and implications we see for practice across different healing and learning contexts.

It is an understatement to say that women are real people with true and great abilities just like men, yet it does seem like forever that we have been debating the rights of women and how they match up against the rights of men. By every reckoning, there is no blockage to the total equality of women to men, yet again, there it is. In spite of everything that has been accomplished, there still exists somewhat of a prejudice. In spite of this prejudice, young women need to know about those great, sometimes not-too-well-known, women who have pushed and prodded and fought like crazy to get todays women to a spot that would have been unheard of only a relatively short time agowomen who deserve the highest praise, and placed in the highest echelons of respect and honor. And even in politics, women have been able to bring more choices for the voters, with more women being elected as mayors, to county and state legislatures, executive offices, congress, and beyond. And despite the hectic pace and all the infighting, there have been far fewer who have been forced to resign because of incompetence or criminality. Many of the women discussed in these pages could have been even more useful and helpful had they not had faced that wordtradition. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were some team. Their organizational skills and tireless efforts could not have been met with failure. It goes back to Stanton calling a womens rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848. Someday we will truly be a land of equality, practicing what it preaches, and the women will get us there. Hopefully, this book will encourage young women of today to keep up the good fight.
According to Tom Gallagher, Romania's predatory rulers, the heirs of the sinister communist dictator Ceausescu, have inflicted a humiliating defeat on the European Union. He argues convincingly that Brussels was tricked into offering full membership to this Balkan country in return for substantial reforms which its rulers now refuse to carry out. This book unmasks the failure of the EU to match its visionary promises of transforming Romania with the shabby reality. Benefiting from access to internal reports and leading figures involved in a decade of negotiations, it shows how Eurocrats were outwitted by unscrupulous local politicians who turned the EU's multi-level decision-making processes into a laughing-stock. The EU's famous 'soft power' turned out to be a mirage, as it was unable to summon up the willpower to insist that this key Balkan state embraced its standards of behaviour in the political and economic realms. The book unravels policy failures in the areas of justice, administrative and agricultural reform and shows how Romania moved backwards politically during the years of negotiations.

“An all-encompassing study . . . Holm shows the interconnecting historical, social and psychological attributes of Native American veterans.” —Historynet.com At least 43,000 Native Americans fought in the Vietnam War, yet both the American public and the United States government have been slow to acknowledge their presence and sacrifices in that conflict. In this first-of-its-kind study, Tom Holm draws on extensive interviews with Native American veterans to tell the story of their experiences in Vietnam and their readjustment to civilian life. Holm describes how Native American motives for going to war, experiences of combat, and readjustment to civilian ways differ from those of other ethnic groups. He explores Native American traditions of warfare and the role of the warrior to explain why many young Indigenous men chose to fight in Vietnam. He shows how Native Americans drew on tribal customs and religion to sustain them during combat. And he describes the rituals and ceremonies practiced by families and tribes to help heal veterans of the trauma of war and return them to the “white path of peace.” This information, largely unknown outside the Native American community, adds important new perspectives to our national memory of the Vietnam war and its aftermath. “An overview of one kind of serviceman about which nothing substantive has been written: the Native American . . . A fascinating introduction to the role of military traditions and the warrior ethic in mid-20th-century [Native American] life.” —Library Journal
In this book, Tom DeWeese has collected a strong representation of the hundreds of articles hes written on these subjects through the years. These articles were written during some of the greatest changes to our government, our schools, our economy and our personal freedoms yet witnessed in American history. They document the fights that erupted over those changes as policy was being written and enacted. They name the perpetrators and document their actions. In short, this book represents a history of some of the major political battles of our time and stands as a truly remarkable indictment of, not only the Democrats, but more so of the Republicans who had a chance to stop those changes, but instead, actually helped make them happen. For decades, Tom DeWeese has been sounding the alarms over government land grabs, radical environmentalists, radical reform in the schools, attacks on our national sovereignty and UN-driven global governance. For his efforts, Tom DeWeese was not only ignored, but derided and labeled an alarmist. Now, however, those policies he warned us about are front page headlines fueling a national discontent. As a result, today, most of the issues are the root of the growing national protest now commonly known as the Tea Party movement. As they rip apart our nation and protests grow in our streets, Tom DeWeese issues this challenge Now tell me I was wrong.
