A historian examines the developments in women’s lives over a period from 1850 to 1950 in the famous southeastern England seaside town. The southeast coastal town of Eastbourne is probably best known today as a popular holiday resort frequented by the retired generation. It has long, golden beaches and a gentile pace of life and, from that point of view, little has really changed from the mid-1850s to today. However, for the women of the town and their advancements and achievements, a significant period was between 1850 and 1950, when changes in medicine, education, family life, and the right to vote played an important part in their lives. The First and Second World Wars also brought about their own changes and challenges. A History of Women’s Lives in Eastbourne delves deep into these historical subjects and more.
In 2010, Tina von Reese Lokkbakk’s life shifted when she finally stood up to her then husband and traveled to Norway with her family for a long-anticipated vacation. While there, her spontaneity returned, she rediscovered laughter, and most importantly, her spirit. When she returned home, Tina soon realized there was no other option but to let go of what once was and embark down a new path without any idea of where it might lead. In a retelling of her personal journey to healing and rebuilding her life after a high-conflict divorce, Tina candidly chronicles her life and experiences at the end of her marriage and beyond that included heartbreak and a multitude of monumental challenges such as the loss of her child, her reputation, her home, her financial security, her parents, and even her friends. Throughout her story, Tina proves that it is possible to crawl out of the darkness of suffering to find the light of peace and happiness. After the Burn shares the true story of one woman’s radical journey to awakening after enduring a high-conflict divorce and the estrangement of her teenage daughter.
Through biographical narratives, Claiming Home traces how queer migrant women living in Switzerland navigate often contradictory perspectives on sexuality, gender, and nation. Situated between heteronormative and racialized stereotypes of migrant women on the one hand, and the implicitly white figure of the lesbian on the other, queer migrant women are often rendered ›impossible subjects.‹ Claiming Home maps how they negotiate conflicting loyalties in this field and how they, in their own way, claim a sense of belonging and home.

Named one of the best books of 2017 by Time, People, The Guardian, Paste Magazine, The Economist, Entertainment Weekly, & Vogue Tina Brown kept delicious daily diaries throughout her eight spectacular years as editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair. Today they provide an incendiary portrait of the flash and dash and power brokering of the Excessive Eighties in New York and Hollywood. The Vanity Fair Diaries is the story of an Englishwoman barely out of her twenties who arrives in New York City with a dream. Summoned from London in hopes that she can save Condé Nast's troubled new flagship Vanity Fair, Tina Brown is immediately plunged into the maelstrom of the competitive New York media world and the backstabbing rivalries at the court of the planet's slickest, most glamour-focused magazine company. She survives the politics, the intrigue, and the attempts to derail her by a simple stratagem: succeeding. In the face of rampant skepticism, she triumphantly reinvents a failing magazine. Here are the inside stories of Vanity Fair scoops and covers that sold millions—the Reagan kiss, the meltdown of Princess Diana's marriage to Prince Charles, the sensational Annie Leibovitz cover of a gloriously pregnant, naked Demi Moore. In the diary's cinematic pages, the drama, the comedy, and the struggle of running an "it" magazine come to life. Brown's Vanity Fair Diaries is also a woman's journey, of making a home in a new country and of the deep bonds with her husband, their prematurely born son, and their daughter. Astute, open-hearted, often riotously funny, Tina Brown's The Vanity Fair Diaries is a compulsively fascinating and intimate chronicle of a woman's life in a glittering era.

Tina Marie Floyd-Howell was born December 1, 1980 in Dothan, Alabama. Tina was raised in a good, stable household, but unfortunately for her, the affairs of life didn’t come without some traumatic experiences with some bumps and bruises along the way. During her adolescent years, Tina is reminiscent of having to struggle and fight her way through in order to survive at certain seasons of her life, accepting the unforeseeable challenges that came which seemed almost impossible to overcome. There were times where her struggles were so overwhelming that she couldn’t see the end of the tunnel and had concluded within herself that they wouldn’t come to an end, only to fi nd herself being taken under with a longer and greater, heart-gripping struggle to face head on. By nature of character, Tina is a seeress, or naturally born with a prophetic element in her character from birth, having a special, second-sight of earthly things happening through revelatory dreams and visions given, seeing things come to pass in the earth realm before they have a literal manifestation. Tina is acquainted with having a personal history of seeing demons which is certainly not part of the normal, common thread ofmediocre humanity. Because of the peculiarity of her special gifting, she has had to be cautious and careful with whom she dealt with and connected with, and due to her knowledge of these facts, she has had to be careful with whom she shared her birthright.

Although the United States spends almost one-fifth of all its resources funding healthcare, the American system continues to be dogged by persistent inequities in the treatment of racial and ethnic minorities and women.ÂInvisible VisitsÂanalyzes how middle-class Black women navigate the complexities of dealing with doctors in this environment. It challenges the idea that race and gender discrimination-particularly in healthcare settings-is a thing of the past, and questions the persistent myth that discrimination only affects poor racial minorities. In so doing, the book expands our understanding of how Black middle-class women are treated when they go to the doctor, why they continue to face inequities in securing proper medical care, and what strategies they use to fight for the best treatment (as well as the consequential toll on their health). Drawing from original research, the author shines a light on how women perceive the persistently negative stereotypes that follow them into the exam room, and proceeds to illustrate why simply providing more cultural-competency or anti-bias training to doctors will not be enough to overcome the problem. For Americans to truly address these challenges, the deeply embedded discrimination in our prized institutions-including those in the healthcare sector-must be acknowledged.
